एके दिवशी शिव शंभूंनी भक्त कन्नप्पांची परीक्षा घेण्याचा विचार केला आणि मंदिरात कंपनं निर्माण करून मंदिराचे छत पाडले, हे दृश्य बघून सगळे लोकं मंदिरातून पळून गेले पण कन्नप्पा यांनी शिवलिंग वाचवण्यासाठी आपल्या शरीराने शिवलिंगाला झाकून घेतलं, नंतर त्यांना शिव शंभूच्या डोळ्यांतील सांडत असलेलं रक्त दिसलं, हे बघून कन्नप्पा यांनी पटकन बाणाच्या सहाय्याने स्वतःचा एक डोळा काढला आणि शिव शंभूला लावून दिला.
