Words of promise and hand shakes are fine until something goes wrong. Emails and texts MIGHT provide an additional layer of protection but having a written contract, an agreement between you and the venue, can protect everyone in the long run. Having a clear understanding of expectations is key. The problem is that most bands are not really "in" business......but that venue is!
