About this listen

In this episode of Yoga Insider Podcast, I'm talking about what meaningful continuing education looks like for yoga teachers, and why ongoing study is part of your professional responsibility.

You'll learn:

- Why depth (not novelty) is what differentiates great yoga teachers.
- What to look for when choosing a continuing education training.
- Why ongoing study supports credibility and long-term leadership.

If you're in the Vancouver area, I'm hosting a YACEP-accredited training called Ayurveda for Yoga Teachers, alongside my colleague Jessica Bugra (Ayurvedic Counselor) on January 17th and 18th, 2026. Register Here.

Training Includes:

- 2 x 2-hour morning yoga practices where you’ll have the opportunity to embody key principles of Ayurveda. If you’re missing those long morning practices you experienced during your YTT, you’re going to love this!

- Lectures and discussions based on key principles of Ayurveda and their practical application to Hatha yoga, including doshas and circadian and seasonal rhythms.

- An introduction to the history of ayurveda.

- Understanding Doshas and Mapping Your Dosha - facilitated by Jessica Bugra (Ayurvedic Counselor)

- How to integrate the universal wisdom of Ayurveda into group classes, private sessions, progressive series, and workshops (while honoring your scope-of-practice).

- How to adapt your group yoga classes based on seasons, and how to create your own yoga series based on the natural elements.

- Each day ends with grounding practices - yoga nidra, sound bath, tapping meditation.

This weekend training is designed for yoga teachers, curious students, and allied health professionals who are seeking an introduction to the basic principles of ayurveda and how its practical applications can be used to find a more balanced life - specifically through the lens of hatha yoga. Yoga teachers will learn how to skillfully integrate the universal wisdom of Ayurveda into their group classes in order to adapt offerings based on seasons, as well as how to create progressive yoga series based on the key principles of Ayurveda. This is an opportunity to expand your knowledge and understand the intersection between yoga and Ayurveda - two complimentary Vedic sciences.

Jessica Bugra is an Ayurvedic counselor, registered acupuncturist, life coach and yoga teacher. In this training, she will provide you with an introduction to the basic principles of ayurveda, guide you through an activity to help you understand your unique dosha, and share insights on what the wisdom of ayurveda tells us about circadian and seasonal rhythms.

Alexandria Waycott is an experienced registered yoga teacher (E-RYT 500), with over 14 years of teaching experience. She runs 200-hour yoga teacher training programs and advanced continuing education courses. She will take you through 2-hour morning practices where you’ll have the opportunity to embody key Ayurvedic teachings. Additionally, she will discuss how to integrate foundational principles of Ayurveda into your classes, and how to build progressive series and workshops while honoring your scope-of-practice.
