About this listen

Victor is examined by an Irish magistrate after fishermen discover a freshly murdered body. Taken to view the corpse, he realizes it is Henry Clerval and collapses into fever and months of delirium in prison. Mr. Kirwin tends to his case and contacts Victor’s father, who arrives and helps steady him. The grand jury rejects the charge, and Victor is freed, though sunk in despair. Resolving to return to Geneva to protect his family and confront the Creature, he departs by sea. On deck at midnight, he reflects on his ruined past, takes laudanum, and falls into nightmares until his father rouses him.
