About this listen
In this raw and deeply moving two part episode, listeners are invited into the lived realities of survivors who have endured not only the trauma of abuse, but also the relentless challenges that follow—even after their abusers are convicted. Trigger warning: This episode contains discussions of abuse, sexual violence, and trauma.
If you or anyone you know that has or is affected by sexual violence, please contact Rape Crisis Scotland https://www.rapecrisisscotland.org.uk/help-local-rcc/
In this concluding episode, Charlene and Emma talk about their personal experiences of dealing with the Scottish legal system after sexual assault. They share how fearful it is during sentencing and how close sitting the abusers supporters and family are allowed to be. They tell us all the challenges survivors have to face in obtaining their own trial transcripts, how there is lack of legal representation for victims and there are no safeguarding procedures put in place when survivors are giving their evidence.
Charlene and Emma's message is of hope, resilience, and for any women facing similar circumstances, YOU ARE NOTE ALONE. Please get in contact with JEMS, this is a safe space for women to seek support and solidarity. Stronger when together.
