About this listen

Ex-cop Grant Foxx’s life is thrown into chaos when a beautiful woman with a dangerous secret begins working at his distillery – in the first book in a bourbon-infused romantic suspense trilogy featuring mystery, murder and lots of spice.

FEATURING DUET NARRATION

In Fiasco, Kentucky, there is one rule: never fall for a Foxx brother. Any woman who did ended up dead – or so the rumour goes.

Townies call it a curse. But I’ve lived it, and I won’t survive it again. I’m not a cop anymore, but I’ve seen enough danger to know that Laney Young, the beautiful stranger who just showed up in my town, is running from something. She’s lying about where she came from and what she’s doing here.

I don’t want her near the quiet life I’ve made for myself, but she’s everywhere: working at my distillery, living in our guest house, I can’t avoid her. And the way she dishes out attitude from that pretty mouth of hers has me wanting things I’ve sworn to myself I’d never want again.

When her past shows up and mingles too closely with mine, her lies begin to unravel. I mess up, dig too far, and get too close. Only two things have the power to keep her safe now: bourbon and lies.

First time listen to Victoria's novels.
I’ve e had this book in my Library for a while. But my favourite authors always seem to have their newest drop when I'm about to start this book
I enjoy that it's a trilogy, as I am a series type of listener and firstly, the narrators just love, Connor and Samantha, they are brilliant and had the perfect voice for these 2 heroes.
I nearly thought that it was going to be a simple, small town type of trope as it slowly developed that way, bit it was the constant subtlety and innuendo, that the author kept dropping thst kept me keen to see if my musings were right. As it turned out there was an awesome, and again, subtle twist and I was totally wrong.
There is some action, suspense, lots of spice and more good looking, alpha's that I'm going to learn about in the next 2 books..
There's also 2 gorgeous little girls, a wise grandpa, a dog, and a bestie. that just about completes the package.
although I didn't find a lot of depth to the plot as it consisted mainly of snippets of memories that kept me trying to piece it together.
I did think there was going to be a big finale where it was going to get scary but instead, it was like a slow burn with little detail into some questions i asked myself. that's not to say it was a let down, Victoria just had a different way of bringing something pending as horrific to a final end.
all in all, for me, i'd say it was pleasurable listening, while skimming the surface of some cruel and scary topics.
loved the setting and the creative diction written for lainey. she had sass alright.
I thought maybe the implications of the curse may have been more at play with the hero in this book as it pointedly stood out in the blurb, but was mentioned only a couple of times early on in the novel, but then seemed to become a side thought in the thick of things.
That was a bit strange for me , because it seemed to be a main focal point that the town new about and the hero in this case, was worried about.
Anyhow, that's just my thoughts. It was a really good book. And as I said, Connor and Samantha did a great job of breathing life into these characters with their connotations with the the sass and their emotions, looking forward to book too.
