ענינו המיוחד של יום ג' דסליחות הי' בגדר "סוד". ביום זה הי' אדה"ז אומר מאמר דא"ח, אבל רק בפני ממלאי מקומו כ"ק אדהאמ"צ והצ"צ. וכך נהגו שאר הרביים. והודיעו שלא יגלו זאת. וצ"ל היתכן שכ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר גילה ענין זה לכולם?! ויובן עפ"י מה שמצינו דוגמתו בכל עניני התורה, שדוקא בדורות האחרונים נתחדשו ענינים בתורה שלא היו בדורות הקודמים, דורות נעלים יותר! המשל שנותנים ע"ז הוא מ"ננס ע"ג ענק" שרואה רחוק יותר מה"ענק". אבל צריך להבין היתכן שנשמות נמוכות יותר יראו "רחוק יותר" בעניני התורה?! והביאור: דוקא בגלל שהיא נשמה נמוכה, הנה כדי שגם היא תוכל למלא תפקידה בעולם וכו', צריכה היא לידיעות ו"אמצעי לחימה" יותר! ועד"ז מצד גודל היוקר הענין של ג' דסליחות לא גילו זה ע"ע. ודוקא מצד התגברות החושך בדורות האחרונות גילו ענין זה כדי שיהי' במה להתגבר על החושך. ומכיון שכ"ק מו"ח גילה ענין זה, שזה קשור עם אמירת דא"ח וכו', מוכח שעל כאו"א לנצל ענין זה כדי למלא שליחותו בעולם ע"י פנימיות התורה וכו'.

My father-in-law revealed that the third day of Selichos is a special day, on which the Alter Rebbe would deliver a maamar, but only in the presence of those who would become his successors, the Mitteler Rebbe and the Tzemach Tzedek. The subsequent Rebbeim did the same, and they instructed that it be kept a secret. How then could my father-in-law reveal it to everyone? This can be understood based on the answer to a similar question: we find that regarding Torah study in general, there are greater innovations in Torah in later generations, even though the souls of previous generations were greater. It is explained that this is like a dwarf situated upon on a giant’s shoulders, where the dwarf, while smaller than the giant, sees farther than the giant. But the question remains – why did Hashem make it that the lower souls would be able to see further in Torah than the greater souls? The answer is that specifically because it is a lower soul, it needs greater knowledge and better “ammunition” to fulfill its mission of transforming and lighting up the world. Similarly, because the third day of Selichos is so previous, its quality was not revealed in earlier times, but it was revealed specifically in later generations to equip us so that we can overcome the intensified darkness of these times. And since my father-in-law the Rebbe revealed this to us, and it has to do with delivering a maamar etc. – it is clear that everyone must use this information and the special quality of the day to fulfill his mission in the world through the inner dimension of the Torah etc.
