Publisher's Summary

A brand-new production of Andy Weir’s modern sci-fi classic, narrated by the incomparable Wil Wheaton, and featuring bonus content from the writings of Mark Watney.

Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars.

Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there.

After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he’s alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive.

Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plain old "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.

But Mark isn't ready to give up yet. Drawing on his ingenuity, his engineering skills - and a relentless, dogged refusal to quit - he steadfastly confronts one seemingly insurmountable obstacle after the next. Will his resourcefulness be enough to overcome the impossible odds against him?

Wil Wheaton, who has lent his voice to sci-fi blockbusters like Ready Player One and Redshirts, breathes new life (and plenty of sarcasm) into the iconic character of Mark Watney, making this edition a must-listen for both longtime fans of The Martian and new listeners alike.

BONUS MATERIAL: This edition includes the following extras:

  • “Diary of an AssCan” - Mark Watney, new astronaut
  • “I Made It!” - A happy letter to Mom
  • “Car Trouble” - A somewhat sad letter to Mom
  • “The Earthling” - A postscript. *Available for the first time in this recording

Stellar book!

As a fan of fantasy and science fiction, I loved the attention to detail in this novel. the story itself is written in an easy to understand way for those who have limited understanding of physics and mechanics. at no point do you feel belittled. The characters in the novel are all distinct and personable. the book is a must read.

Great story but was narrated better by R.C. Bray

This version of the Martian shows how much a great narrator adds to the story. Will is good generally but he doesn't do enough voice acting here to separate the different characters.
Bring back the R.C. Bray edition.

A big surprise

I am not usually a fan of science fiction but “The Martian” is amazing. It’s set in a very believable scenario of Martian exploration in the near future. The story of the astronaut who was left behind on Mars is credible in every detail. There are no unbelievable new technologies, just the application of currently know engineering, horticultural and other sciences. This sets it apart from the majority of science fiction. I could not fault the story or the reader.
