About this listen

Her name is Alias, and she is in big trouble.

She is a sell-sword, a warrior-for-hire, and an adventuress. She awoke with a series of twisting, magical blue sigils inscribed on her arms and no memory of where she got them.

Determined to learn the nature of the mysterious tattoo, Alias joins forces with an unlikely group of companions: the halfling bard, Ruskettle, the southern mage, Akabar, and the oddly silent lizard-man, Dragonbait. With their help, she discovers that the symbols hold the key to her very existence.

But those responsible for the sigils aren't keen on Alias's continued good health. And if the five evil masters find her first, she may discover all too soon their hideous secret.

While I have no issue with the narration itself, the narrator was quite good, she did mispronounce quite a few words, most of them common English words. The worst example is when she pronounced Giogioni Wyvernspur’s name three different ways; the first time she pronounced it as Giogini, then the next two times correctly as Giogioni, but then for the rest of the book as Giogiani. Two other notables were her mispronunciation of both ‘draught’ and ‘bier’.

I first read this book a little over 20 years ago and it was over 10 years old at the time - and this recording proves it’s very timeless and still works - many fantasy books of the 80s and before fall into the usual sexist tropes, but not this one, if an adventurer pulls their weight and stays loyal to the party they’re accepted as an equal

This book is mysterious, adventurous and everything you could hope for in a fantasy story especially one in the Forgotten Realms

Absolutely brilliant
