About this listen

In this book, Richard Ayoade - actor, writer, director, and amateur dentist - reflects on his cinematic legacy as only he can: in conversation with himself. Over 10 brilliantly insightful and often erotic interviews, Ayoade examines Ayoade fully and without mercy, leading a breathless investigation into this once-in-a-generation visionary. They have called their book Ayoade on Ayoade: A Cinematic Odyssey. Take the journey, and your life will never be the same again.

I don’t know what I just listened to, but I liked it. I’m not sure what I expected but it’s pure Ayoade from start to finish and I am not disappointed.

Does not disappoint

Really enjoyed this, Richard is clever and brave. Jesse is amazing, loved his imput. I chuckled alot and if you enjoy Richard's dry and quirky delivery, you'll love this.

Fun and clever

Loved it. Aoyade is a genius. His independent thought process and creative ideas (successes and failures), inspire the reader to aspire to new heights.

Excellent listen

I love Richard’s work so I find myself almost apologetic at having to criticise this book. On the positive side, when this is funny, it’s very funny indeed and Richard’s comedic strengths shine through. However this book is just way too long and unfocused. It REALLY needed to be edited ruthlessly. You could lose half the book and you’d pretty much lose none of the laughs.

Funny but flawed

Brilliantly misunderstood by me and thousands of other nobodies. I forgot that there are cowboys still out there, and I am one of them,

Not Village People cowboys, Things are si hard for me,

My mother died over 20 years ago today, I still miss her,

Ayoade really is the Ayoade of this generation. I was mostly unconscious for the duration of this book in a literal sense that I became Ayoade myself but metaphorically unconscious.

Double Adaptor

A hilarious parody of the indulgent and sycophantic character of films-about-filmmakers, particularly “auteur” filmmakers. It draws on Ayoade’s considerable knowledge of film and film history to mock both himself and the genre in a way that is at once absurd, insightful and utterly ridiculous.

Brilliant

It is a good job that I am a great fan of Steve Coogan because at many stages you could swear it is Alan Partridge speaking.
Very very funny at stages.

great listen

I listened to On Top and wanted more, this came out at start of locked down and was a fun listen.

double good

Made the mistake of listening as above, gives the whole experience a much more menacing air ( or does it?). Probably just turned Richard Ayoade into my personal Room 101.

Don’t listen to ayoade if you have just read 1984 by George Orwell!
