ホシノさんは現在二十六歳の女性。彼女がまだ小学校五年生の春休み、祖父が神主を務める神社に泊りがけで遊びに来ていた時のこと。
神社に手伝いに来ている方たちの子供たちともすっかり仲良しで、下は1歳、上は16歳のお兄さんまで、子供たちは8人で遊んでいると、やがて大人たちが境内の桜の下に集まって敷物をしいて、お酒を飲みながら毎年恒例の花見が始まった。まだ早い時間だったが、一般参詣をとめて、知り合いや氏子さんたちで大盛り上がり。
子供たちは飽きて、途中から母屋に引っ込んでいたのだが、突然Aさんという、おとなしいおばさんがうめき声を上げ、暴れだした。
