About this listen

This eloquent book translates attachment theory and research into an innovative framework that grounds adult psychotherapy in the facts of childhood development. Advancing a model of treatment as transformation through relationship, the author integrates attachment theory with neuroscience, trauma studies, relational psychotherapy, and the psychology of mindfulness. Vivid case material illustrates how therapists can tailor interventions to fit the attachment needs of their patients, thus helping them to generate the internalized secure base for which their early relationships provided no foundation. Demonstrating the clinical uses of a focus on nonverbal interaction, the book describes powerful techniques for working with the emotional responses and bodily experiences of patient and therapist alike.

This is a really helpful text in understanding attachment theory and psychodynamic principals in the practice of psychotherapy. Wallins provides rich, complex and nuanced examples that provide for a depth of reflection on the therapist-reader’s own work.

I struggled to get into the book and feel like some of the contents was not explained in plain English but the information was interesting. The narrator sounded like he was just reading it off. I think it definitely has some gems though.

Great information

Clearly a good book, but I found it too hard to follow the way it is read on audible. Because it is such concentrated information it needs to be read with more understanding of the content, and with more pauses.
I couldn’t finish it, but may look for a hard copy.

Not for Audible

The only frustration here is that the publisher can pay a guy to read this (beautifully) for 17 hours but can’t spend the twenty minutes to list the chapter titles?

Where’s the chapter headings?
