Publisher's Summary

This eloquent book translates attachment theory and research into an innovative framework that grounds adult psychotherapy in the facts of childhood development. Advancing a model of treatment as transformation through relationship, the author integrates attachment theory with neuroscience, trauma studies, relational psychotherapy, and the psychology of mindfulness. Vivid case material illustrates how therapists can tailor interventions to fit the attachment needs of their patients, thus helping them to generate the internalized secure base for which their early relationships provided no foundation. Demonstrating the clinical uses of a focus on nonverbal interaction, the book describes powerful techniques for working with the emotional responses and bodily experiences of patient and therapist alike.

Not for Audible

Clearly a good book, but I found it too hard to follow the way it is read on audible. Because it is such concentrated information it needs to be read with more understanding of the content, and with more pauses.
I couldn’t finish it, but may look for a hard copy.

Awesome insights into attachment!

Narration is a bit dry, but the content provides a very thorough overview on the spectrum of attachment disorders and healing

An Outstanding Book!

By far, the best, most comprehensive and well written text on attachment I have ever read. This text is so well organized and well written that it is a pleasure to listen to, with new insights revealed each time I review the chapters. The narrator is also superb, and I truly wish more authors would select professional narrators of this quality. I also purchased the text, and know I will be referring to it for years as I practice attachment-oriented psychotherapy.

Not Intended for me, But Still Interesting

This book is directed towards other psychotherapists. I just wanted to learn about a little more about psychology. This isn't to say that the concepts are too hard to understand, but if you just want to learn about attachment psychology, there are plenty of articles online that can be read much faster. What I really enjoyed about this book was learning about the various complexities of psychotherapy. It's a dirtier job than most people probably imagine, and I'm grateful for the people who can do it.

Must Read

I am listening to this for the second time. This is an indispensable resource for any work with individuals and families. David Wallin calls us to a deeper understanding of the therapeutic process and builds strategies, incrementally, to build the most optimal environment for for healing.

Great!

I loved everything about this book and the narration of it. Wallin's treatment of attachment theory is sophisticated and complete yet accessible. His psychotherapeutic anecdotes remind me of Yalom.

Exceptional

Attachment in Psychotherapy is a wonderful resource for the patient as well as the therapist. It has been, and will continue to be a book I return to over and over, as it has helped me to understand the complex nature of my own psychotherapy. It has expanded my knowledge, and most importantly it has given me greater courage to “mentalize” more deeply with my therapist.

Useful with good use of case studies

Very useful with understanding the different explicit and implicit processes that take place during therapy, both for the client and therapist.

Helpful distinctions between the different attachment categories and good use of practical examples taken from his experience as a therapist to help strengthen the theory.

Quite dense in parts but then understandable as it's aimed at qualifed therapists. It was helpful to develop an understanding of the dynamics of therapy both for myself as a client and also as a trainee.

Informative, interesting and I used it in my essays. It took me a while to get into it but after a few chapters I couldn’t stop listening to it.

the contents of the book are informative but

This the most monotous and boring audiobook I have come across on audible so far. it's not much about the book content but about the content presentation and narration that put me off. unfortunately, just couldn't finish.

Excellent

I’m a counsellor and found this book to be excellent. Ive also now bought the hard copy. Will refer to again I’m sure. Narration was great and made the text easy to follow which isn’t always the case with non-fiction narrators reading information they are not familiar with. Thoroughly recommend to any counsellor/therapist who wants to deepen and develop their work relationally with clients.
