 यह एक लवेबल (प्यारा) उपन्यास है। जो इतिहास में कम परन्तु लोक के आलोक में कई गुना अधिक ख्याति पा चुका है। ऐसी ख्याति कि कोई शोध उसकी स्थापित छवि-आभा को तनिक-सी भी ठेस नहीं पहुँचा सकता है। प्रायः ऐसा होता नहीं है। शताब्दियाँ खप जाती हैं, तब कहीं इतिहास का छोटा-सा टुकड़ा लोक साहित्य में शिखर पर पहुँचता है। यही जन-मन की अन्तरात्मा में मृग में बसी कस्तूरी की तरह समा जाता है। पद्मिनी जाति, पद्म योनि पद्मावती के साथ कुछ ऐसा ही हुआ जैसे प्रयाग के तीर्थराज बन जाने का। संगम तो नदी के उद्गम स्थान से मार्ग बढ़ते ही होने शुरू हो जाते हैं। अनेक नदियाँ मिलती जाती हैं परन्तु वे तीर्थराज नहीं बनते। पद्मावती अब एक आख्यान या पुराण कथा बन चुका है अर्थात् लेजेंड। उसमें प्रेम पराकाष्ठा पर जा पहुंचा है। प्रेम जिन गली-गलियारों से आगे बढ़ता है, उन्हें आनन्द के अमृत से ओत-प्रोत करता जाता है। इस उपन्यास में यह सब है, क्योंकि यह प्रेम की उन धड़कनों को पुनर्जीवित कर सका है, जिनको हम याद रखना चाहते हैं परन्तु जिनको हम अनुभव करने से वंचित रह जाते हैं। इसमें पद्मावती के बचपन से लेकर यौवन के अक्षय बसन्त की आम्रमंजरी, कस्तूरी और चन्दन-केसर की अनुभूतियाँ बसी हैं। आइए, वयःसन्धि की अनुभूतियों से जुड़ें।©2020 Storyside IN (P)2020 Storyside IN Ancient, Classical & Medieval Literature Collections
