Good story, Marred by foced idiocy

The story is pretty decent. Entertaining enough to finish. However theres an event near the end that Kieran bumbles into purely because the author refuses to allow him to put the pieces together and recognise it for what it is.

The event still could have taken place, Kierans arrogant enough to think he'd succeed but instead of leaning into that the author juat made Kieran stupid for that section. Its an annoying contrivance that really marrs the story.
