Una tarde mientras le preguntaba a Lupin sobre sus casos más sonados, me empezó a dictar números, en lo que yo pensé era una serie completamente aleatoria. Tras varios minutos así, haciéndome poner en tela de juicio la cordura de Lupin, me di cuenta, de que los números representaban una secuencia de destellos, que parecía alguien estaba enviando desde una ventana del edificio del frente a nuestro. Era un mensaje.
Conseguimos localizar el origen del mensaje en un apartamento del edificio del frente, cuya puerta estaba abierta. Entramos corriendo pero Lupin dijo:
-Demasiado tarde. Está muerto.
