Story
A savage and hilarious satire, Gulliver's Travels sees Lemuel Gulliver shipwrecked and adrift, subject to bizarre and unnerving encounters with - among others - quarrelling Lilliputians, philosophising horses, and the brutish Yahoo tribe that change his view of humanity - and himself - forever. Swift's classic of 1726 portrays mankind in a distorted hall of mirrors as a diminished, magnified, and finally, bestial species, presenting us with a comical yet uncompromising reflection of ourselves.

Narrator Dan Stevens ( Downton Abbey) presents an uncanny performance of Mary Shelley's timeless gothic novel, an epic battle between man and monster at its greatest literary pitch. In trying to create life, the young student Victor Frankenstein unleashes forces beyond his control, setting into motion a long and tragic chain of events that brings Victor to the very brink of madness. How he tries to destroy his creation, as it destroys everything Victor loves, is a powerful story of love, friendship, scientific hubris, and horror.

Its controversial theory that populations evolve and adapt through a process known as natural selection led to heated scientific, philosophical, and religious debate, revolutionizing every discipline in its wake. This man should never read aloud!
He pauses after every sentence and with earphones it is extremely annoying. You can hear him inhale and smack his lips. There is even a crackling sound in the recording that forced me to stop listening after only a few minutes. This was a total waste of money and time for the download.

Inadvertent Comedy
We listened with the kids on a road trip. Classic, enjoyable story for the family. However, as others have noted, the performance leaves a lot to be desired. He must narrate movie trailers, as that's exactly how this book is delivered. The tone and cadence are especially awkward for a Victorian novel. And the many mispronunciations throughout eventually had us laughing out loud. I downloaded this because it was so cheap. Don't make the same mistake.

Mispronunciations Abound
I think the narrator is fine. I wouldn't give him a bad rating, but it is true what other reviewers said about his pronunciation. He pretty much mispronounces every word that is above a high-school level. I assume he's perfectly well educated, so it's weird how many words he isn't familiar with. Good, enjoyable story.

BUY ANOTHER VERSION - Narrators constant mispronunciation spoils Jules Verne’s work
The narrator mispronounces words more often than not. His pronunciation of the word quay as kway, and taciturn as taki-turn serve as a couple examples of the lack of understanding the English language. Living in a port city the former mispronunciation continues to haunt me. It is honestly hard to believe that this audiobook made it past copy. Don’t waste your money on this version!!!
