About this listen

Will and Maddie are sent to the neighbouring kingdom of Celtica to investigate reports of terrifying direwolves, an ancient species thought to be extinct.

What they discover is even more of a threat – a sorceress who has brought direwolves and Wargals under her control and is building an army of creatures both living and supernatural.

Arazan must be stopped before she becomes too powerful – but first Will and Maddie need to find her.

Have been a fan of the Rangers & Brother band for sometime, this was probably the 1st that actually featured magic is in the story , while still quite a good read i hope it doesn’t happen too much, but i do like these books & will wait patiently (not ;)) for the next book.

Such a good series

I’m a big big big John Flanagan fan but this story felt a little off compared to a lot of his other works. I’m not huge on the magic element that was included despite the 1% explanation, but that’s more personal preference. It was more the absence of the quick-witted humour and clever planning that usually makes my heart sing when I read books within this universe.

John Keating also doesn’t hold a candle to William Zappa as far as I’m concerned either. I’m sure he’s a great choice for other titles, but it’s not working for me even after a good half dozen books in a row to try and get used to it.

Good, but not great

Not John's best book. Weak characters, and basically boring. I do have all his other books

SPOILERS: I enjoyed listening to The Wolves of Arazan, especially having the chance to hear Will and Maddie at work again. However, the storyline was nowhere near as inventive and interesting as the previous Royal Ranger books in the series. The plot felt somewhat monotone, particularly as at no point did the villainess seem to be a real threat to the protagonists. The direwolves carried the storyline almost entirely. The narration by John Keating was very good, although it will never match the vibrance of William Zappa in the earlier Ranger's Apprentice audiobooks to me. Still, a worthwhile listen.

Enjoyed the earlier Royal Ranger books more...
