Publisher's Summary

On one dark and windy night, Ozzy steps out of bed, jumps out his window, and walks straight into the ocean. It's as if someone is controlling Ozzy's mind. He's saved by Sigi - Rin's daughter - and Clark, a mechanical robot bird. More than ever, Ozzy could really use the services of Rin, the Wizard for Hire.

When a mysterious package arrives in the mail containing a plane ticket and a thumb drive, Ozzy is certain it's from Rin. But when Ozzy, Sigi, and Clark arrive in New York, Rin isn't there. Instead they are met by the man who was the money behind the mind-controlling "discipline serum" created by Ozzy's parents. Ozzy was the final test case and is now the key to discovering the serum's secret. He is a very valuable boy. Once again, he's on the run.

As fate would have it, Rin appears just in time. But Rin's goal is more than a rescue mission. He needs an apprentice to cement his status and notoriety in the magical realm of Quarfelt - assuming the place even exists. As Rin's apprentice, Ozzy must complete five tasks to receive the Gift of Wonder. Ozzy is willing to help, but is now really the best time to enter a contest for wizards when something is controlling his mind? Especially when someone is out to destroy the people he loves?

Nice middle grade book.

Once again, as with the first book in the series I enjoyed the narration way more than the plot. Kirby Heyborne does a fantastic job bringing the story to life. Having said that, the story itself while not bad was not what I was expecting. The book has little to no fantasy in it, which I find misleading considering it's being promoted as a fantasy series.

Clean, humorous, with great adages- god for family

Our family had many laughs from this book. We enjoy this author. The narrator was excellent. The book is both tender hearted and ridiculous. Which suits me perfectly. I recommend for school aged kids to 110 yrs old!

An Excellent Sequel in the Wizard For Hire Series

One of my very favorite books of 2018 was the first Wizard for Hire. I've been anxiously awaiting this sequel and it did not disappoint!

Apprentice for Hire book 2 in the Wizard for Hire series picks up 4 months after the ending of book 1. Our main protagonist Ozzy is found in much better straits than the beginning of book 1. He is now living with Siggy and her mum Patty and is able to go to school and live a somewhat normal teenage life.

But things are anything but normal for Ozzy and Siggy. They have only heard from Rin the Wizard (Siggy's dad) once since the battle on the Mountain 4 months ago. It was a quick phone call to tell Ozzy something is coming. So when a courier shows up with a package containing only a flash drive with tickets to Ozzy's former home in NYC and instructions to come to the Resort In New York they are sure it's a secret message from the Wizard himself. Siggy and Clark join Ozzy and an adventure like only Obert Skye can write begins to unfold.

Suspense builds and questions continue to pile up in Apprentice for Hire. But will the biggest question of all be answered? Is Rin really a Quarfelt qualified Wizard or just a maniac trying to help out a teenager in need?

Find out as one of the greatest wizards of words spins the next great tale in the Wizard for Hire series!
