About this listen

Adopted at birth, for years Lu has secretly dreamt of finding her birth mother, but childhood bullying has left her with a lack of confidence.

When a tragic accident changes her life forever, it sets her on a mission to get in contact with her birth mother and find out the reasons behind her adoption.

When she tracks down her mother in Cornwall, there is an emotional reunion, and the pair begin to form a relationship. But is everything as wonderful as it appears, or has Lu walked into a nightmare?

The characters do bizarre unbelievable things so it’s hard to identify with them. Like - your adoptive mother dies in a car crash and as an only child you move town to meet your birth mother, leaving behind your grieving, lonely father without a second thought? She goes away for a week and never goes back home? Not to pack, not to explain to him? Get a job in this new town and when the birth mother turns out to be an abusive unstable woman you stick it out and stay to help?? Doubt it. Far-fetched and not exactly eloquent, it reads like a Jerry Springer episode at times.

Bizarre, far-fetched and clunky
