Publisher's Summary

The Cuthberts had decided to adopt an orphan - a nice sturdy boy to help with the farm chores. The orphanage sent a girl instead - a mischievous, talkative redhead who'd be no use at all. She would just have to go back. But ever since Anne arrived, no one could imagine Green Gables without her.

This is not the full audiobook!

What would have made Anne of Green Gables better?

Megan Fellows's is the perfect person to narrate this book! But unfortunately audible's copy of Anne of Green Gables skips huge chunks from L.M. Montgomery's novel! Very disappointing.

What didn’t you like about Megan Follows’s performance?

Megan Follows reads best... however...

By far the best reading of Anne of Green Gables but, sadly, the sounds quality is not good. Sound is muffled and I'm almost certain the 'sample' provided before purchase had much better sound.

Loved it!

Anne of Green Gables never goes out of fashion, she is the perfect flawed heroine!

Poor audio quality

I love the story and I love Megan Follows. Disappointed with the quality of the recording.

A sad disappointment

Having first been introduced to Anne of Green Gables by the TV series starring Megan Follows, I was very excited to listen to this version of the book. While Megan Follows does a good job narrating the story, this version is very poorly abridged and produced. This was a real disappointment and I strongly recommend avoiding this version. I gave it one star because Audible requires at least one but I would say that this one deserves zero stars.

I Wish This was Unabridged...

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Yes I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook. It was almost like one of those autobiography read by that person. I just wish it had been the complete book. Unfortunately so much of the story is left out in this edition.

Would you ever listen to anything by L. M. Montgomery again?

Yes I have all of the Anne and Avonlea books that are available already.

What does Megan Follows bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Megan Follows (who played Anne in the Sullivan Entertainment movies) reading Anne of Green Gables was like Anne herself telling the story.

Was Anne of Green Gables worth the listening time?

Yes

Any additional comments?

Megan Follows needs to do the full Unabridged version of all of the Anne books.

1984 Megan Follows Is Anne Shirley. Period.

Would you consider the audio edition of Anne of Green Gables to be better than the print version?

Two different apples.

What other book might you compare Anne of Green Gables to and why?

None.

What does Megan Follows bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Megan Follows has morphed in my mind to be Anne Shirley. Having her narrate this abridged version in 85' was the right voice at the right time.

Who was the most memorable character of Anne of Green Gables and why?

Anne Shirley.

ABRIDGED

This book is labeled as unabridged however it is in fact abridged. So disappointing. Megan fellows is perfect and I wish you would record a better quality and fully unabridged version.

Excellent story but sound quality is not good

Well done but bad audio. Excellent narrator. But the sound quality is very low. Needs to be remastered or redone

Brings back memories

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

The story is a classic and Megan Follows does every bit as outstanding a job as she did in the movie. Alas the sound quality is dreadful and they music overlay overwhelms the narration. Also the recording repeats itself in at least one spot. Great story and performance, piss poor engineering.

anne of green gables

way too fast! I downlaoded this so my girls could enjoy the story while on the way to Tahoe. The narrator talked so fast, it was not enjoyable. We gave up.

Terrible audio quality

Same as others have said. It's a shame it's abridged, that wasn't well done. And the ripped--from-cassette sound quality is dreadful, though Ms. Follows is always good.

A Personal Time machine.

I was 5 in Canada when the 1985 Anne movie series came out and I was instantly addicted. I must have seen that movie more than any other movie. I had the Anne books, an Anne doll, we even had Avonlea themed birthday parties. I was reading reviews of this audio version (yes it is indeed the Megan Follows late 80s version) and some complained that the audio was horrible or that she read it too fast but to me.... this was EXACTLY what I was looking for. This exact audio was a huge part of my childhood. I received these white cassette tapes along with a book and I wore those tapes out. I hadn’t listened to these in maybe 25+ years but a friend and I watched the movie tonight and I had to search online for these tapes since they disappeared through life and moves... This version is PERFECTION to me. I remember ever word and every expression in Megan's voice. I remember the scenes that I played in my mind as I listened. At the end of each chapter, there’s a little music and after chapter one I got all choked up just remembering how much I treasured these cassettes. I listened to them every night as a child as I fell asleep and I’m so grateful to have found them again. 5 stars all the way!

Lovely story read by Anne herself! Odd production value...

Recording cuts in strange places with music, around the end of chapter. Fades randomly. Music is distracting. Megan is wonderful narrating the story. I think the editing and production is just strange. Perhaps it’s just its age.
