Story
This novel is about a woman called Martha. She knows there is something wrong with her but she doesn't know what it is. Her husband Patrick thinks she is fine. He says everyone has something, the thing is just to keep going. Martha told Patrick before they got married that she didn't want to have children. He said he didn't mind either way because he has loved her since he was 14 and making her happy is all that matters, although he does not seem able to do it.

Story
Micah Mortimer isn’t the most polished person you’ll ever meet. His numerous sisters and in-laws regard him oddly but very fondly, but he has his ways and means of navigating the world. He measures out his days running errands for work – his TECH HERMIT sign cheerily displayed on the roof of his car - maintaining an impeccable cleaning regime and going for runs (7:15 every morning). He is content with the steady balance of his life. But then the order of things starts to tilt.

Story
Ann Patchett’s award winning, New York Times best-selling Bel Canto balances themes of love and crisis as disparate characters learn that music is their only common language. As in Pratchett’s other novels, including Truth & Beauty and The Magician’s Assistant, the author’s lyrical prose and lucid imagination make Bel Canto a captivating story of strength and frailty, love and imprisonment, and an inspiring tale of transcendent romance.

The meandering non plot author
Anne Tyler is gifted writer but her family saga stories flow along a vague plotline with no peaks or satisfying denouncements, so knowing that before you read her work saves you from those expectations. However this 3 story drama format is excellent. Each basez on a Tyler novel, it speeds through the stories each being 2 hours long but enough to bring the bewildered or sad central characters to the forefront. this was something I struggled with when I physically read The Perfect Marriage which was the final of Audible's threesome of radio dramas. Who in fact was the main character and what was the purpose or lesson to be gained? Now I know that there isn't really any lesson but there is still much to be gained from watching the lives of ordinary families unfold across the years without judgement from the author. Let you the reader do that judging!
