Life saving audible

Life-changing audiobook, for everyone. This audiobook teaches you great strategies for actually resolving anger, rather than imploding, exploding, or trying to pretend you’re not angry. I have shared this audiobook with many people, and it has brought me a great deal of healthy serenity. highly recommended.

Decent book for those newly exploring their anger

I struggled with this book, first with its narration and second, with the beginning-level stage of the information.

The narrator is not a good actor/reader, and I found it difficult to stage engaged with her monotone performance. I'm not sure why books on life-saving topics are giving short shrift in terms of narrators.

I also struggled with this book's content, which was a surprise after reading the glowing reviews. My best guess as to why this book is not a fit for me is that this book is pitched at those who are new to investigating their anger issues. To give one example, the book spends a lot of time on dissecting those with "outer" and "inner" anger styles, those who need to explode outwards vs. those who keep their anger inside. This is something that I already understood in depth due to growing up with an explosive parent. Often, the content was so simplistic that I stopped listening and noticed 20 minutes later that I hadn't been listening.

While personal stories might be illuminating for some, to me they are not evidence and are thus not helpful. I don't need to here about Lucie's struggle with anger or David's tendency to keep anger inside. I'm a cerebral person and an academic, and I want to understand the research, the psychology, the data, and then practical ways to solve problems.

I'm also a bit surprised by those praising this book, because a lot of the advice would require reading it instead of listening. There is a part where the author details a 6-step procedure for managing anger, and this is better read than heard. But I also thought it was ridiculous (for me, at least) to think about a person in the middle of an anger bout working through 6 steps.

In the end, this book isn't going to hurt anyone and can only help. If you find it unhelpful in the first third, I would recommend exchanging it. I'm currently listening to Mindsight and getting so much out of it--it's the book I wanted!

A Masterpiece

There should be an option for more stars. This was told in a manner and in detail that hit me directly. With every section, I grew a better understanding of myself and my relationship with anger. I wouldn't guarantee that it will help everyone, but it has helped me and given me the tools to continue to help myself. love this audiobook.

Very simplistic

Very simplistic, with too many silly examples. The narrating speed is a bit too fast. I had to change the speed of narration as the tone of the narrator and the speed was making me anxious and angry lol

Everyone needs to listen this audiobook

Everyone needs to listen to this book at some points in their life. Actually I bought this audiobook for my wife to help understand why she is so angry all the time, but have also learned there are things I need to work on as I am the type to hold everything in and then either blow up or resent people for things. Working on my own issues now. Thanks would definitely recommend this one.

An Excellent Perspective

An excellent perspective into a needed understanding of one of the most elusive aspects of human life, our anger. There will be cynical critics, but truthfully knowing thyself is powerful when trying to understand others.

Insightful words

What I liked about the audiobook is that it recognized anger as a real emotion to be understood and not suppressed. It is true also as this audiobook entails that many of our emotional states have origins in our childhood.
