Of course I want to be like them. They're beautiful as blades forged in some divine fire. They will live forever. And Cardan is even more beautiful than the rest. I hate him more than all the others. I hate him so much that sometimes when I look at him, I can hardly breathe. One terrible morning, Jude and her sisters see their parents murdered in front of them. The terrifying assassin abducts all three girls to the world of Faerie, where Jude is installed in the royal court but mocked and tormented by the Faerie royalty for being mortal.

In general, Karou has managed to keep her two lives in balance. On the one hand, she's a 17-year-old art student in Prague; on the other, errand-girl to a monstrous creature who is the closest thing she has to family. Raised half in our world, half in 'Elsewhere', she has never understood Brimstone's dark work - buying teeth from hunters and murderers - nor how she came into his keeping. She is a secret even to herself, plagued by the sensation that she isn't whole.

You'd think that basically being in charge of love would be an epic job, right? Wrong. Sure, I can blow some Lust into people's faces and watch the show, but I can't actually participate. It gets old, trust me. Same goes for love. I can pass it out like sugar-free lollipops at a dentist's office, but I can't get any love for myself. It totally sucks. I used to consider myself a hopeless romantic, so why wouldn't I choose to become a cupid? Sounds like a good idea, right? Wrong again. They don't call us stupid cupids for nothing.

Callypso Lillis is a siren with a very big problem, one that stretches up her arm and far into her past. For the last seven years she's been collecting a bracelet of black beads up her wrist, magical IOUs for favors she's received. Only death or repayment will fulfill the obligations. Only then will the beads disappear. Everyone knows that if you need a favor, you go to the Bargainer to make it happen. He's a man who can get you anything you want...at a price. Everyone says opposites attract. And they must be right, because there’s no logical reason why I’m so drawn to Colin Fitzgerald. I don’t usually go for tattoo-covered, video-gaming, hockey-playing nerd-jocks who think I’m flighty and superficial. His narrow view of me is the first strike against him. It doesn’t help that he’s buddy-buddy with my brother. And that his best friend has a crush on me. And that I just moved in with them. Oh, did I not mention we’re roommates?

What made the experience of listening to Angelfall the most enjoyable?
The narrator was great and it was such a good story really well done for a young adult genre not at all patronizing and realizes that kids these days are more grown up than before.

Interesting angelic apocalypse story
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
This book was recommended to me by one of my Goodreads friends. It sounded interesting and ended up being a decent read. I am a bit sick of post-apocalyptic/dystopia type novels right now, so take that into consideration when reading this review. This is another YA post-apocalyptic novel but with angels!
I listened to this on audiobook and the audiobook was okay. This isn’t one of those audiobooks that was so stellar I would recommend listening to this instead of reading it. Still the narrator did a decent job of distinguishing between character voices. I had a bit of trouble with the different male voices since they sounded awkward and occasionally similar to each other.
Penryn is trying to survive in a world where angels have recently (6 weeks ago) ravaged many major cities on Earth. As if just surviving isn’t bad enough Penryn has a psychotic mother and a handicap younger sister (who can’t walk) to take care of as well. When an angel with black wings kidnaps Penryn’s little sister, Penryn is determined to rescue her. Penryn has decided the best way to do this is to kidnap an injured angel from the scene of the crime and make him take her back to his aerie.
This book was okay. It was pretty typical YA post apocalyptic type of fiction. In this case rather than a nuclear disaster or a plague wiping out humanity it's a host of angels attacking from heaven that wipes out all the major cities. This isn’t ever explained very well and it seems like even the angels aren’t all that sure why they attacked the humans.
Penryn is an interesting character. She is small but tough. Penryn’s mother thinks that she (the mother) gets possessed by demons and is worried about hurting her daughter during one of her demonic episodes. As a result of this insanity Penryn has been trained to fight from a very young age. Penryn has this very practical attitude towards life and just kind of goes with everything. Her dedication to her family is admirable.
The other main character is the angel that Penryn rescues, Raffe. To be honest Raffe is kind of a pretencious jerk through the first part of the story...then again Penryn isn’t very nice to him. As the story continues we learn that Raffe is a complex set of secrets and has a very complicated history of his own.
There is a lot of grotesque and horrific stuff in here. Including cannibalism, genetic tampering/torture of small children, and of course angels attacking humans in brutal ways. There is actually quite a bit of talk about sex as well; the angels really love human women and Penryn is constantly in danger of being sexually assaulted. Needless to say it's an incredibly dark story with very little light or hope throughout.
The book was decently enough written, but this book just basically sets everything up. We don't ever get any resolution around anything by the end of the book. There is no explanation as to why the angels have attacked humanity, as to why humanity couldn't defend themselves, or even much explanation about the angels' society in general.
Then there is the whole star-crossed love thing going on between Penryn and the angel she saves. This kind of made me roll my eyes a bit. I get a bit sick of the tortured man forbidden to love a human girl thing that seems to be ever present in paranormal YA.
Overall I didn't really love this book, but I didn't hate it either. It was somewhat engaging and an okay read. I did like the idea of angels causing an apocalypse, that was creative and intriguing....however, why all this happens is never really addressed. Penryn is an okay heroine, but didn’t really stand out for me. The world is interesting but not all that well developed. I guess in general I am just a bit sick of post-apocalyptic YA and this book didn’t change my mind about that. So if you are a huge fan of post-apocalyptic YA I would tentatively recommend this to you. I personally will not be reading any more of this series.

good book, unexpectedly gruesome and scary
This is a really good book, and the only thing stopping me from giving it that fifth star is that it's lacking that certain X factor that grips you entirely and wrings the emotions from you. I was more interested and invested, but not to that degree. Keen to read the rest of the series though, and sometimes those sequels manage to pull off what the first volume didn't.

I need Books 2 and 3 NOW!!!
Where does Angelfall rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I'd say it's in my top 10
What other book might you compare Angelfall to and why?
I don't read a lot of series on Angels so the only thing I can compare it to is Amy Bartol's Premonition series. But I prefer Angelfall more because I like Penryn more as a main character.
What about Caitlin Davies’s performance did you like?
I love her voice! :)
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The KISS
Any additional comments?
I hope I can purchase books 2 and 3 in audible format. I know books 2 and 3 are out. But unfortunately, I'm unable to buy it for some reason. I mean, I know I can buy the hard copies or the ebook version. But I prefer the audible format.

Different, refreshing, exciting and enjoyable.
I really enjoyed this book and would go as far as to say it is the best book I’ve read (well listened to - I got my copy from Audible!) in absolutely ages. The story revolves around a plucky teenager who lives in a world where the angels have come down to Earth and are waging war on us mortals. Penryn rescues an angel and persuades him to help her rescue her sister from the angel base.
The story has a strong female lead, strong female characters and deals sensitively with issues like schizophrenia. The characters are very believable and I found myself looking forward to the next instalment of the story as I was keen to see what happens next – it really is that gripping. As the story progresses you find out little snippets of information about the angels and how they live, which helps keeps you engrossed.
The only negative thing I could find to say about this book is that the next part in the story won’t be released until November. How am I meant to wait that long to find out what happens next?

Not as good as expected
I bought this book on the reviews and I am not that impressed. Good idea but I would not get any others. Not bad enough to send back.
The narrator is very good and does well with a so, so book. If I had to read it I would not have got through the first 100 pages.

Can't wait for the next instalment
Would you listen to Angelfall again? Why?
Brilliant story with good narrator. The book is available in the US....just need it to come over here. Exciting and mature fiction for the older teenager.
What does Caitlin Davies bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
Great neutral narration with good voices
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The point where Raphael has had bat wings sewn onto him....functional but tragic

Great start, brilliant narrator, then disapointing
Probably one of the books I'm most disappointed in. The audiobook is young adult with an unusual mix of hints of romance with horror in this post apocalyptic survival story. Caitlin Davies is easily a 4 star narrator, I was hooked from the start and the book has mostly great reviews. In summary Penryn is trying to protect her mentally unstable mother and wheelchair bound sister after the angel apocalypse. Fleeing the city at night to avoid the incursion of the gangs they fall foul of a group of angels fighting among each other. As a last resort Penryn helps save the one being attacked as a distraction to let her mother and sister escape but her sister is captured anyway. Now Penryn must find a way to save her sister with only a wingless enemy who isn't living up to her perception of an angel and her mother who, gradually spiraling off her meds, maybe more dangerous than anything else out there. I was completely griped by this book for the story for the first three or four hours, it's tense, romantic and intriguing by turns, then it's like the author hit deadline half way through the book and the quality drops dramatically. The main twist (and several smaller ones) which should have had great dramatic impact near the end, is virtually screamed at you from about half way through the book. Raphie, the Angel, who given his supposed years and knowledge of human culture, should be intelligent enough to explain and reason with Penryn, gives manly orders but stumbles around with about as much talent and tact as Ron Weasley in Harry Potter. I'd give the story 3 stars but only because the start was so good. Honestly I'd probably give this one a miss unless you're reading it for the light romance.

Not what I expected
I was very pleasantly surprised by this book, it wasn’t as I’d expected at all. Penryn was a loveable protagonist to the story, with a will to save her sister at any cost.
Perfect story for anyone who enjoyed books by Cassandra Clare or Becca Fitzpatrick.
Narrator was good and had no issue with captivating my attention with the way she told the story.

Excellent Angel Fiction!
Very nicely written! Strong hero and heroine! Great world, great story, nice pace and a non-cheesy romance.
I recommend to people that like apocalyptic sci-fi. I don’t recommend if you are looking for a romance-centred story. The romance is secondary here. Be aware also of gory scenes!

Captivating, disturbingly dark, original
It quickly made my top list of angel books - Angelfall is impossible to put down! The narration is great, the story is fresh and original, it is really dark, thrilling and disturbing as well as exciting, romantic and sexy. I love the characters and absolutely cannot wait to start the sequel - why are the second and third books of the trilogy not available as audiobooks yet?
