An abandoned old house in a small town northeast of Houston is the site of a second murder, eerily similar to a supposed cold case of 14 years earlier. FBI Agents CJ Johnston and Paige Riley are dispatched to find the link between the two homicides. The team, including Ice and Billy, find the case to be anything but cold. For CJ and Paige, juggling the investigation while trying to keep their love affair a secret proves to be as hard as uncovering long-buried clues.

FBI Agents Cameron Ross and Andrea Sullivan found the unexpected when they met amongst the warm red rocks and cliffs of Sedona - each other. That commitment, along with their ingenuity, courage and resolve, will be tested along the most barren of stretches in California's Mojave Desert. Someone is using the bleak highways to dump women's bodies, but in a landscape where an inviting road can curve into a sand-choked mirage, and a true oasis can be invisible under a white-hot sun, clues can blow away in the wind.

If there’s one thing Brooke Sullivan knows for sure is that people let you down, but that hasn’t stopped her from going after the life she wants. In a new city, with a new job and a new start as a high-end real estate agent, she’s finally back on her feet. The last thing she needs is a distraction. Not her volatile neighbors, not a damn stray cat, and certainly not the flaky, infuriatingly adorkable girl-next-door property stager she has to work with.

Publisher's Summary
A vacation out of the city sounds like just the ticket for Tori Hunter and Sam Kennedy. Joining their Dallas Police Department pals Casey O'Connor and Leslie Tucker in a rented RV, they set out for the New Mexico mountains - and on a collision course with a manhunt. FBI agents Cameron Ross and Andrea Sullivan are tracking a deadly quarry in desolate territory. An ex-teammate from Cameron's Special-Ops days is in deep hiding, planning who-knows-what to cap off a killing spree.
With a hostage at stake and time running out, Cameron reluctantly agrees to outside help from women she doesn't know...or trust. In the crossover that fans have been clamoring for, it's a heart-pounding race against time that challenges the courage and commitment of the exceptional women from Gerri Hill's Hunter's Way and Devil's Rock Series.

Just Okay
The premise was good; the relationship between Sam and Angel was nuanced and well done and there were parts of the law enforcement portion was done pretty well too.
On the other hand the 'butch' pair of of Tori and Cameron were so prototypical for both the classic butch and for movie or TV FBI agents it was sad; their roosterish confrontations would be silly if they were teenage boys. The same goes for some of the scenes with the other agents as well. At some point millennials really have to start doing lesbian fiction and give some of the lame cliches and storylines the merciful death they deserve. The same goes for the stereotypes that fill those books; seriously Samantha Kennedy is a homicide cop but as soon she's kidnapped she turns into a Barbie Doll. I mean is a hostage situation some kind of fetish that every cop story has to have. I can't wait for less cliched themes to be inserted into lesbian lit; until then selections like this will have to do.

disappointing, predictable crossover
Having read all of the Hunters Way series and the Devils Rock series, I felt compelled to finish it off with this final crossover. I dont know why I hoped it would somehow be better than the others - but yet again this was a disappointment. Of all the books in both series, I only enjoyed Hunters Way. Angel Fire, like the rest in the series, was short, underdeveloped, cliche, and in serious SERIOUS need of a new editor (if this had one at all). The ending was lazy and anticlimactic. The stereotypes of the butch, beer drinking, emotionally distant agents and their femme, domestic, emotionally intelligent partners in constant need of rescuing are incredibly dated, if not outright offensive. And for the LOVE OF GOD we get it. Cameron likes pizza. It wasn't cute or funny the first 700 times it was mentioned, it wasn't cute or funny the last 700 times it was mentioned. I can happily say I will never read another Gerri Hill book again.

I love Gerri Hill's series' with Tori and Sam, Andrea and Cam, and her other series. Abby Craden does a fantastic job of narrating. I only wish there were more of Gerri Hill's books on Audible.

Another hit By Hill
I loved the book. I wish O Connor and her Girlfriend played a bigger role in the story.
It kept me ingaged and interested. although it would of been nice for the story to follow Tori and Sam home , and to see how Andi and Cameran got along after the case closed. So with all that ... it is still an excellent crossovers book.... a must read for sure.

What happened to Casey’s accent??
I think the narrator forgot that cast is supposed to have an accent. It’s almost impossible to tell the voices of Casey and Sam apart because of this and makes the audiobook hard to follow.

I really enjoyed this book. It brought back fond memories from a 5k run I did at Angel Fire NM a few years back. Taos is also an amazing little city with so much history and not to mention Santa Fe, another place I love to visit. I thoroughly enjoyed this book as it brought old characters back. Everyone is a Sam and Tori fan but now I want more! As always, Abby delivered, she is definitely one of the best narrators.

Gotta love it when it comes together!
After reading about these characters in their individual books and series it was great to listen to their interactions. Even the bad guy in this one was complicated and interesting. The collective quest was amazing. It was nice to see Samantha "Sam" shine in this narrative.
Reading the other books probably isn't necessary but because I had, made this one all the more enjoyable, funnier and definitely more poignant at times.
Oh yeah, and the sex was good too.😌

needed hear other novels before this one
The novel feels like the last chapters of another one. The story is not really a romance, and as a hostage-crime drama it didn't really keep my attention. There wasn't much character development, bring the reader along, and I did not latch onto anyone really in the novel. I think that is because the characters are from other previous novels I have not real. The story focuses around two couples, (FBI agents/Cops) and a sniper who runs amok ant takes Sam as a hostage, into woulds to be tracked by Cameron her partner, and Sam's partner. The big problem I had with the story was Sam's behavior towards angel, who was basically a cold killer, including children. She seems to warm to him, and to me this did lost a level of believe-ability. There is no really build up of tension, romantic or threat-wise. It was an easy listen and I decided to complete it. But it wont be very memorable, for me anyway. As always, Abby Craden did a great job of narrating.

The Gang of Four reign supreme
Tori and Sam with Andrea and Cameron. I wish they could all live near each other. With Lesley and Casey they make me happy and I wish there were another half dozen stories that involved them. This story shows you the baddy right from the beginning and then makes you feel with Sam. I cried when he finally told his story but my heart was in my mouth from the beginning.

Wanted to like it but...
This wasn’t a good book at all. Sadly there is just too much formulaic lesfic books about. Whilst I like the genre I give up on the general lack of quality. There are some excellent authors and very good stories. But this one is just awful, no depth, no characterisation and no compelling story.

Gripped
The Hunter series has been awesome and I don’t think it’s over, I’m not sure but I feel there’s more to come, fingers crossed. I’ve got through all 4 books in one week, that’s not just because the Gerri Hill’s writing is so grippling good but also the narration by Abby Craden is the best I’ve heard, she really pulls you in. I listen to a lot of audio books and she is heads and shoulders above the others, so much so that if she is narrating any books on my to read list they will come to the top of the pile.
