About this listen

He only looked away for a second.

Still haunted by the disappearance of his little sister, Amy, over 20 years ago, Joseph Bridgeman’s life has fallen apart. When a friend talks him into seeing hypnotherapist Alexia Finch to help with his insomnia, Joseph accidentally discovers he can time travel. His first trip only takes him back a few minutes, but his new-found ability gives him something he hasn’t felt for the longest time: hope.

Joseph sets out to travel back to the night Amy went missing and save her. But after several failed attempts, he discovers the farther back he travels, the less time he gets to stay there. And the clock is ticking.

With the help of Alexia, Joseph embarks on a desperate race against the past to save his sister. Can he master his new skill and solve the mystery of Amy’s disappearance before it’s too late?

Previously released as The Unexpected Gift of Joseph Bridgeman, this updated version includes extra chapters, new plotlines, and even deeper character development. It makes way for an expanded vision of the Joseph Bridgeman Series, with the first four books released in 2021 and 2022.

Very engaging storytelling, but I was a bit annoyed by the narrative's failure to follow its own time travel rules in a couple of places, and some less than realistic character reactions. The embedded barbed wire should only have existed for a few seconds, and the truncated ends imply that Joe should only have been able to transfer part of Alexia / Amy's arm rather than all of her; he would have difficulty proving his lottery win due to a vanished ticket; some jumps inexplicably involved relocation in space as well as time (actually all time travel of this sort involves relocation in space as well as time, because the Earth and Sun are moving, but I'm ignoring that, along with many other time travel conceptual difficulties). Amy was a lot less bothered than she should have been by her brother being "overwritten" at the end, and everyone is very blase about Joe's psychometry abilities.

Yes, Ray Porter using his native American accent for the (British) protagonist and faking British accents for everyone else was a bit disconcerting, but the need for this is understandable, and I enjoyed his performance nonetheless.

Good read despite annoying plot holes

While I enjoyed the storyline, the narration was confusing. It's a story set in the UK, the main character, Joseph, is English - WHY DOES HE HAVE AN AMERICAN ACCENT! 🤦‍♀️
The narrator can do an English accent for the other characters....
However, I enjoyed the story enough to try the next book - just as well it was included in my membership.

Definitely could not predict the ending on this one! Well written and kept me engaged the whole book. However, the voice of Alexia sounded more like an 80 year old rather then someone Joe's age.

Not a predictable ending!

I was hooked into this book straight away and couldn't stop listening. It keeps you guessing and does not disappoint at the end. I look forward to continuing the series.
