Interesting and informative

Interesting and thoughtfully presented, however the reading (of one book in particular) came across as aimed at school students. Additionally, some pronunciation was questionable. Not only of Spanish words but also a number of English words which were pronounced incorrectly repeatedly throughout the book, which became distracting. There were also a number of outright contradictions between one sentence and the next.

Low quality

The 3 books are poorly written and constructed. The narration is equally as poor.

All you need

Some people have a knack for making history sound truly entertaining others are just educational without being fun to read, and this book falls into the second category.

Bad bad bad

Although the only thing I could give credit was for the way the author tried to make it entertaining even if it is based on a bunch of lies These stories are solely based of a white man’s perspective and with no official input from the original people of the land. Sadly most histories of the ‘New World’ were distorted showing ancient civilizations as savages, compared to the Spanish Conquistadors. There are better materials and documentaries out there than this book! To make it even worse, the narrator’s pronunciations of many words made me cringe deeply.. I’m sure the narrator speaks only one language in his life and unashamedly butchers all of the beautiful words of the ancient languages. Shame on u! I can understand that a true Mayan would not even dare to read this book because it is full of lies!!!!

Superficial and hard to listen to

Disclaimer - I only listened to about an hour an a half of this book. This book was a great disappointement. It started with it being focused mainly on the Maya, proclaiming it's going to touch the subject of the Aztecs in relation to the, and not even mentioning the Inca, so the title is somewhat of a fraud. Then, the narration is terrible, consisting of unnecessary pauses and repetitions that make any long sentence hard to follow. On top of that, the story itself is superficial, and not at all captivating ( though the narration may have had an influence on my opinion here). To sum up - not for anyone with a real interest in this ancient civilizations.

A fresh, accurate description ancient civilization

Any additional comments?

The author writes in a very flowing manner by telling the narratives of people in the ancient world rather than regurgitating bland historical events. It makes for a brilliantly decipherable history book, even as it is packed with accurately researched historical facts.

Any additional comments?

The author brings mortality to great legends of the history. The book also includes the often neglected histories about the area. I recommend this title to anyone that loves stories in general, and is pursuing an understanding of Ancient History in particular.

Any additional comments?

I found this book very interesting and helpful for people who love Ancient Greek history. There is no outright answer to why The Bronze Age collapsed but many reasons and all of them are important to explain what happened and Captivating History gives them all.
