About this listen

A village of secrets finds its past lies waiting.

When mourners gather in the village of Lower Gladdock, the grave is found to be already occupied. The victim is soon linked to a tragedy that tore the village apart five years ago and is handed over to the Bexford police to solve.

Detective Sergeant Guy Poole is hoping to put his traumatic past behind him and settle into his new station at Bexford. Now history is threatening to raise its head again, and he has a murder case to contend with.

Detective Inspector Sam Brock has a new recruit to take under his wing, and he's determined this one isn't going to die. As if that wasn't enough of a headache, his wife is coming home and may be on the verge of discovering the lie he's been telling her.

Newly paired duo Brock and Poole must track down the killer before more lives are lost.

I really enjoyed this book, typical British whodunit, very well narrated. I've already bought the second and third in the series and am waiting for the fourth to become available on audio too.

Storey was lighthearted, well written, and very well narrated by Nigel Patterson. Most enjoyable and can be listened to anytime.

If you like watching Midsomer, this will be comfort food. Nothing overly exciting or out of the box makes this more charming than others that have to have a hook or a quirk that end up trying too hard. Pleasant main characters and potential ongoing unveiling of subplots. Listened in one sitting.

good police procedural

Likeable characters who have lots of room to develop as the series progresses. A good mystery set in an English village full of eccentric characters.

The plot was good, interest held. I enjoyed the narrator's voice. a few good twists.

Really good mystery

For a first book in a series it didn’t hold my attention as I’d anticipated it would. It has good potential for other volumes and I would risk another. It has lots of competition though and will have to raise its game.

An unlikely scenario.

Enjoyed the vocals, could imagine the characters easily, very involved and interesting story line. Look forward to the next one
