Publisher's Summary
An Introduction to Celebrity Protection and Touring offers a peek behind the scenes of the close protection industry, more commonly known as the bodyguard business. More than the stereotypical bullet blocker, the modern protection specialist is a skilled practitioner who utilizes verbal judo much more than its physical counterpart.
This audiobook, written by industry experts, Elijah Shaw and Dale June (USSS ret.), also narrows the focus, centering in on an exciting, but misunderstood, sector that involves working with celebrities ranging from actors to musicians and entering into their world of touring, filming and promotional appearances. While many may think that celebrity protection is one size fits all, nothing could be further from the truth, as you are not only dealing with the protection of the client, but the client's reputation. All this with the added pressure of the entire world looking over your shoulder, just waiting for a misstep.
With real world advice, tactics and techniques on how to identify and defeat potential attackers, as well as covering everything from dealing with overzealous fans, to hyper-aggressive paparazzi, this audiobook offers proven solutions from two experts that have covered the gambit from the Grammy Awards to the White House.

A crucial text for industry aspirants
I have been in the field of close protection in the corporate, celebrity, and political arenas for 25 years now and I have read a lot of books on the subject. I had already read the hard copy of this book but wanted something I could listen to in the car during downtime on jobs. While there are plenty of books on the subject the niche of this book fills a large void. While other texts will give you drills, formations, tactics, checklists etc, Elijah and Dale step outside the concept of black and white and provide the aspiring celebrity protector a sense of what they refer to as 'real world vs textbook'. Possessing a high EQ (emotional quotient) as well as a good IQ and physical skills will give you the edge to take you further in this field. They paint the pictures of the behavioural pitfalls which can rapidly exit your path in this career based on lived experience. Using examples from movie sets, recording studios, tours and awards ceremonies they help you get an understanding of the realities and the practicalities of the minefield that is celebrity protection.
Elijah Shaw is reading the text and he presents as extremely personable and it makes for engaging listening. He has an obvious passion for the business and it shows through in his projection. This is anything but a dry textbook listen.
In my opinion, this book is on par with other such greats in the industry such as Just Two Seconds by Tom Taylor and The Gift of Fear by Gavin de Becker.
