About this listen
1933. An odd group gathers for an English country house weekend party: a sickly host, a disgraced socialite, an amateur detective and her nephew, a murderous couple, an ex-army captain, and a former militant suffragist countess. The table is set for eight. By Sunday, only half the cutlery will be required, and Saturday's tablecloth will be used as a shroud. Cut off by a storm, their host is found dead in circumstances mirroring the death of Lady Alice's husband. There is no way out, while a killer walks amongst them. And as far as Lady Alice Langtry is concerned, being trapped with an amateur detective is on a par with being trapped with the murderer . . .

Moments of horror, mixed with moments of delight, and a few (literally) laugh out loud moments too!
I loved the twists and turns in revealing the guilty!
Lucy Scott does a brilliant job of voicing the characters and the story.
A real pleasure to have Lady Alice's company in my ear as I listened.
Truly well done RWR McDonald on another brilliant murder mystery. A very different story and setting from The Nancys and Nancy Business, and completely riveting.
First class who dunnit

Instead I found myself captivated by the authors insight into the degradation of females in the male dominant pre and post 1930's.
Two stories merge into one as time and opportunity reveal themselves.
A history lesson and a 'whodunnit' with a satisfying end.
Lucy Scott is a talented narrator. She stepped into each character channelling the voices of the English aristocracy down to the Scottish house keeper.
I thoroughly enjoyed An Ambush of Widows.
