WINNER OF THE HUGO, LOCUS AND BRAM STOKER AWARDS

After three years in prison, Shadow Moon is free to go home. But hours before his release, his beloved wife is killed in a freak accident. Numbly, he boards a plane where he meets an enigmatic stranger who seems to know Shadow and claims to be an ancient god - and king of America.

Together they embark on a profoundly strange road trip across the USA, encountering a kaleidoscopic cast of characters along the way. But all around them a storm of unnatural proportions is gathering.

War is coming, an epic struggle for the very soul of America. And Shadow is standing squarely in its path.

I’d be hard pressed to choose between American Gods or GOT.

The performances, story and overall deliciousness astound.

I have no idea what I missed in the first go around and I cannot wait to find out.

Bravo! Yay! Winning!

god what a tale

I loved this book from the very first chapter, it was intriguing, well paced and the voice actors were fantastic, they really brought the book to life.

Amazing in every way

Enjoyed the humanity of Shadow and his lack of ego. Another fairytale from the master Gaiman.

This story had me entertained from beginning till end. Who is good who bad, is it just relative or does it change with time. The characters draw you in with their flaws but still have you wanting them to “win”. This is the best book I’ve had the pleasure to listen to in a really long time.

I loved this story

I always put off this book, but I’m so glad I finally decided to read it. I like the way Gaiman has explored the desperation of Wednesday and Loki in a land they have no real dominion and how far they will go to achieve power. I liked the way he interwove the gods from other religions and their behaviours and how they are surviving in an ever changing world.

The scale and scope of this is both hubristic and incredible. What an amazing appropriation of mythology and commentary on Contemporary America and the novel itself. It works as a piece of high literature and an engaging, page turning narrative!!

So good!

Where does American Gods rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Look it's not my favourite Neil Gaiman book and it's not one that I will probably listen to over and over again, but I'm definitely glad I did listen to it.

What other book might you compare American Gods to, and why?

I actually don't think there's anyone out there that I have come across that even compares to Neil Gaiman, his mind is intricately deep.

What about Neil Gaiman and George Guidall ’s performance did you like?

I liked the warmth in their voices. I loved it when Neil came on and read his parts.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

God's gone mad!

Any additional comments?

I honestly think this book may be better read. Sometimes you come across books that cover so much and are so in depth that its nice to be able to dwell upon the words written on the page and reflect upon what the author has written. With an audio book this is harder to do.

Intricate, sublimely written book

It's an interesting take on how the idea of different Gods come into been, what humans want from worship and how old ideas never die. I loved it. Hopefully the television series will do it justice.

Brilliant story

Would you consider the audio edition of American Gods to be better than the print version?

I absolutely do! There's something about listening to the author read his own work, and the artists he's hand chosen to bring his characters to life.

What was one of the most memorable moments of American Gods?

The crazy twist in Part 3

Which scene did you most enjoy?

If I told you that, you'd understand an underlying part of the plot that you need to hear for yourself.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The meeting of Mr. Wednesday.

Any additional comments?

Read this, I promise you, you will want to relisten to it right away! I hope the Starz show lives up to it.

Stayed up til 2am to finish!
