Story
Lost in time, the town of Black Creek, Kentucky becomes home to temporal layers of people, creatures, and monsters from disparate eras. Journey beyond the time of humanity and witness the rewriting of mankind’s genesis. For Owen McCoy, a typical day on the job as head of security for Synergy, a research company conducting mysterious experiments, is boring at best. And that’s the way he likes it. Patrolling the Appalachian mountainside, where his now deceased father taught him how to hunt, is relaxing and connects him to the past.

Udo's biggest problem isn't being a digger (that's low class), or staying drunk (that's damn expensive), or avoiding the Dwergaz (they're monsters), or even pissing off the supposed Gods. It's that his reality...well, it isn't what he thought. And now, he can't even afford to drink because his so-called friend Nicz is cutting into his business, digging up tin, iron, and copper. So Udo forms a new plan: clay. After all, clay jars are used to store everything: meat, herbs, and, his personal favorite, ale.

Publisher's Summary
Discover Alter, the number one Audible best seller and be prepared to ask yourself, "To survive being lost in the Amazon, what would I...become?"
Stranded in the Amazon rainforest, a lost man fights for survival and discovers that the root of evil doesn’t just reside in the world’s darkest corners, but inside the hearts of all mankind. Dr. Gregory Zekser is on a mission to visit the furthest reaches of the Amazon, providing medical aid to recently contacted tribes.
As a general practitioner and food pantry director, his life in Massachusetts can be chaotic, but serving people is what he does best, and he doesn’t mind sacrificing his personal life to help others, at home or halfway around the world. But any hope of returning home to his wife, daughter, and comfortable life are eradicated when the small plane carrying him back to civilization plummets into the unknown depths of the jungle.
Swallowed by endless green, with both pilots dead, Greg struggles to stay alive in a world that wants to infect his body, suck him dry, and eat him whole. Ravaged by illness and dehydration, and stalked by a ruthless predator, Greg’s life teeters on the edge of oblivion until a scream lets him know that he is not alone.
His first encounter with an uncontacted tribe ends in death - the first of many. Driven to the brink of madness, and then beyond, Greg finds himself caught up in a feud that existed before his arrival, but will only end with his death - or his enemies’.
International best-selling author, Jeremy Robinson, the master of taking creative and original concepts and fusing them with realistic and emotive characters, explores the depths to which a man can descend, and what it takes to climb back out.

An amazing glimpse into the dark heart of humanity
Was absolutely unsure what to expect from Alter. Was it like Tarzan, Lost, Avatar? I could not have been more wrong. I have never read anything like this before. You follow Dr Greg Zekser through his struggle to survive in one of the harshest and most dangerous environments on Earth. The ancient and mostly unexplored jungles of the Amazon. After surviving a horrific plane crash he is forced to face and overcome the worst that the Amazon can throw at him. During the course of his journey and to survive he begins to change, alter, devolve... I refuse to say more to avoid spoilers, but I'm a 49 year old bloke and I was wrecked by the end of this. I was in tears during the final chapter. Luke Daniels is one of the best narrators out there and was perfect for this simply amazing glimpse in the dark heart of humanity by Jeremy Robinson. If this doesn't win awards there is something seriously wrong.

Alter
Well, let me start by saying that Jeremy Robinson has become one of my favorite authors. If the opportunity to review one of his books comes up then I drop everything else to do it. I listened to this book and Luke Daniels gave perhaps the best performance I have ever heard a narrator give. Every character was done with such care and attention that I was emotionally pulled into the book. I felt an investment in the outcome of each and every one of them. Even the ill-fated pilot's remains. This is a violent tale (it starts immediately with the aforementioned pilot's remains). It is also beautiful, funny, and moving in a way that surprised me. The story doesn't just end, it completes. It is now one of my favorite books. This story was given to me for free at my request for my voluntary and unbiased review.

A Survivors Tale
Alter - A tale of survival in the Amazonian rain forest. To be honest for the first 45 minutes I didn't think I d finish it. But I persevered and suddenly found that this is a fascinating tale. Well written and unique story. It is emotional and touching in places. Narration is clear and concise. I highly recommend this audio book. Lost in the jungle can give a new perspective
*I was given this free review copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. Luke Daniels is a new narrator for me. I wasn't sure how I'd like his narration. When the story started he felt vocally stiff for me. I know Greg is a stiff character with his speaking and word choices, but I still wasn't sure. As the story went, Luke grew on me and Greg seemed to relax into the jungle he's lost in which was reflected in Luke's voice. When it came to voicing other characters, I didn't have the strained feel that comes with Greg, so I know Luke is in character for Greg. The word choices and thinking process of Greg fits his profession and character. These are specific in the beginning as Greg is a product of society. Greg still has mannerisms of modern society but he is more and becomes more as his story goes on in the jungle with what he lives through. It's interesting how Greg's thinking changes as he faces a new world where current beliefs and modern items don't exist. Greg, who's a doctor who saves people and never harmed anyone is faced with things that happen in nature and has to make a choice in what he will do to survive. There are a few gross moments. I would not want to see those! We start the book with a moment I really would not want to see or live through, when the plane crashes. Jeremy's writing brings a dreadful image to mind as I listened to the story. The story... It's a calmer story for me. And that's not saying that it's a slow story. Jeremy has many things happening to Greg as the story goes, there's so much in a jungle that can be dangerous along with simply trying to figure out how to survive. The story is focused on the events Greg comes across and how he reacts to survive in the Amazon jungle. There are dangers, but the story isn't what I usually listen/read. That doesn't change that the story is well written. Then there was a twist added to the characters. This picked up the plot for me, drawing me in to see what happens. The hunted become the hunters, determined to survive at all costs. I found I was gripped by the book at this point and wanted to know what happened. I was pulling for the characters to do what they must. I have faith in Jeremy to give me something different in his books, and he did. Jeremy always adds something in that's a twist, either to the characters or the world that the characters have to react to. I love getting this in his books as it adds a new level to the story. By the end of the book, I was beyond invested into the story and characters. The end even brought tears to my eyes as things settle into place. This was one heck of a journey for the characters. Greg is a product of his surroundings, and he adapts to those surroundings to survive. But aren't we all? The story really hit the heart for me. It felt to bring to heart that there is more to life than work and money. There is love and others around you. There is the planet that needs to survive as well.

Outstanding Story
This is a slight stray from the norm for Jeremy Robinson, as it technically isn’t science fiction though there is a supernatural element. Greg Zekser is a doctor who crash lands in the Amazon jungle during a humanitarian mission to help the primitive tribesmen of the jungle. Forced to adapt to his new situation or die, Greg meets Ashan, a native woman who teaches him the ways of the jungle. In this kill or be killed world, Greg and Ashan are being chased by the jungle’s ultimate killer, the legendary beast called Mapinguari. Though typically a stoic person, there are three points in this story when I was brought to the edge of tears. This story does have some of Robinson’s typical action, but the driving force is emotion. Luke Daniels is in the Audible hall of fame, and his work on this story is a terrific example of why. His character work with the Amazonian people is outstanding, delivering dialogue in a way that transports the reader into the jungle to observe Greg and Ashan through their journey.

Alter keeps you guessing
Lost in the jungle... this isn't a story of a protagonist facing off against an antagonist. It's more man vs nature, or man vs himself. Interesting and compelling. But just when you think you can't help but anticipate the way the story has to come together in the end, you're wrong and your guts are tied up in knots. It's a better ending than you could guess at. Luke Daniels narrates the audiobook. It was a great choice, as he's a great voice and gives the character tremendous heart.

Great despite some flaws
First of all: "This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review." There were a lot of things about this book that might have bugged me. Some of the plot points and the twists and turns were totally implausible, the violent scenes were unrealistic and kind of felt like reading a movie script, etc. But the fact is that none of these things actually bothered me, and I thoroughly enjoyed the book! It throws you immediately into the story, but then it doesn't go where you think it will, and that's okay. The narrator of the audiobook did a great job of heightening the tension when required and conveying the depth of emotion present in the book. It kept me engaged and interested, and added to the overall appeal of the book.

Completely Unexpected
This review is for the audiobook version of Alter by Jeremy Robinson and read by Luke Daniels. Protagonist, Dr. Greg Zekser left his family and medical practice back for what was supposed to be a short medical mission in the Amazon. Much like the S. S. Minnow's supposed three-hour tour, he ended up spending much more time in the jungle than anticipated. Unlike the crew of the Minnow, however, he was to be alone, hunted, and delve into the depths of madness. I don't want to reveal anything else about the plot, it would be too easy to spoil it. Several times while listening to Alter I thought I knew where Robinson was going with the story. Each time he managed to surprise me. I thought it was going to be a jungle survival story, a modern-day Robinson Crusoe, a survival horror story, or an ecological fable. Alter was much better than what I pictured in my head. Once again, Luke Daniels proves why he's among the best in the audiobook narrating business. He's equally capable of bringing warmth and humor to his performances as he is at bringing dark and menacing characters to life. All those traits are on full display in Alter. ***Full Disclosure: I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.

Could almost be a real life story but...
Only half way through & I'm thoroughly enjoying this story. The narrator is great - I feel like I'm having coffee with Glen and he's telling me what he lived through... except for this one thing that really, really irks me. After about 6 months living with this amazonian woman who's never seen a civilized human being, he's taught her a vocabulary that exceeds many civilized people. The writer should have been more realistic here... she uses words (correctly too), like "vengeance", "explain to me", "don't you understand", "didn't, shouldn't, wouldn't, couldn't" etc. This makes the story almost a comedy.... especially how the narrator uses a strange accent - all the while using correct tense & pronunciation. My 2 cents...

Jaguar
When his small plane crashes in the uncharted rainforest jungle, killing both pilots, a gentle and cultured medical doctor finds himself alone in the alien world about him with few skills to survive beyond his ardent desire to get home to his beloved wife and child. With little hope of rescue, he must adapt to the new environment to stay alive and, as his outer life alters, so does his inner perception. This astonishingly visceral and powerfully emotional book, performed to perfection by Luke Daniels, sweeps the reader along through the ride: fantastic visually, there is action, horror, fear, love, lust, remembering but also beauty and discovery. It truly is a book to pull hard and challenge our ideas. The joining of Mr.Daniels as narrator and the story by Jeremy Robinson is inspired, the book increasing it's power through the emotional interpretation of the spoken word. This book really surprised me, being, in many ways, more of an experience than a simple story. And it left me emotionally exhausted. My deep thanks to the rights holder of Alter, who, at my request, freely gifted me with a complimentary copy, via Audiobook Boom. Perhaps not for the very squeamish but for everyone else I recommend it wholeheartedly. And this is one of those very rare books I know I will re-read again in the future.

A good fun story with great narration
I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review. The Book I haven't ever read a book quite like this but the idea of it appealed to me for the adventurous nature of it. I wasn't dissappointed. The story starts out in ways you might expect with hardship and danger but I found the changes to it when he learned to survive in the jungle as another person the most interesting part of it. The earlier sequences where he was stoned and thinking about his old life were quite comical and the references to current TV whilst amusing now might be lost on anyone reading/listening to this later. I think the character was good and his journey from hopeless western man to jungle god was very well done, it was a gradual change that aside from the obvious 'supernatural' aspects was believable. The ending I found quite moving, both his lives had been shattered but he managed to consolidate his two lives and this gave him a purpose and a way to protect both aspects. It wasn't a typical mushy happy ending it was bittersweet but I think the main thing was that it was hopeful. The Production The narration was superb, he did voices well had just the right tones and emotions to suit the scenes and covered comedy, action and emotion well. Can't fault it.
