About this listen
When you steal a hundred grand from some very bad people, the best way to survive is to stay small and quiet...
Possibly it's not to save a pair of drowning girls, not go 'viral' on social media and certainly not to let the local police take your passport, trapping you on a small 'party' island in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea.
But Steve isn't the average guy, he's ex-military, ex-enforcer and ex-human. He's a one man nanite fuelled nightmare for those that cross the line, and he's decided that its time to clean up his act. He's going to make up for the things he's done, and save 'the little guys'.
It's a nice fantasy, but even he has to admit, it's really just a justification, because he's a very bad man, with horrifying abilities, and he's only just learning what he's capable of. He needs a reason to not go to the dark, and if that's hunting down the creatures of the night and beating them to death with their own femurs: well, he's just the man for the job.
Stolen money. Greek Islands. Werewolves and Enforcers...what could possibly go wrong?

Great story

The main character is unapologetically rough around the edges and volatile. The characters ( mainly Steve, the protagonist) are developed in depth with their back story explained later in the series which helps to explain and excuse some of their character flaws.
There are a few issues that may be annoying and I guess a common issue that revolves around the LitRPG genre, mainly around pacing. The book will be in the middle of a frenetic fire fight, then Steve will break off to go through a protracted internal monologue about upgrades and options. This saps momentum from the scene and gets annoying. Having said that it's a necessary part of the story and I'm not sure what the work around would be.
there's also multiple points throughout the series where you'll be facepalming at the decisions made, the obvious traps walked into. these are somewhat mollified by Steve admitting he was being a dumbass later. the pacing of the overall story does get a little ridiculous, one catastrophe after another. With time limits or deadlines measured in hours or days meaning that multiple short cuts have to be taken by the characters all the time and sacrifices made. It would be nice to have a few stretches where things weren't batshit crazy and let them build and develop a little. but I think that's what the author was going for. No time to rest, reacting to one thing after another, taking two steps back for every step forward.
All that aside it's an epic series that gets better with each book. definitely worth a listen with great voice acting. I just mention the points above for expectation management and hopefully stop some of the teeth gnashing and face palming I went through.
