Publisher's Summary

A thrilling debut, reminiscent of new fan favorites like One of Us Is Lying and the beloved classics by Agatha Christie, that will leave listeners guessing until the explosive ending.

“Welcome to dinner, and again, congratulations on being selected. Now you must do the selecting.”

What do the queen bee, star athlete, valedictorian, stoner, loner, and music geek all have in common? They were all invited to a scholarship dinner, only to discover it’s a trap. Someone has locked them into a room with a bomb, a syringe filled with poison, and a note saying they have an hour to pick someone to kill...or else everyone dies.

Amber Prescott is determined to get her classmates and herself out of the room alive, but that might be easier said than done. No one knows how they’re all connected or who would want them dead.

As they retrace the events over the past year that might have triggered their captor’s ultimatum, it becomes clear that everyone is hiding something.

And with the clock ticking down, confusion turns into fear, and fear morphs into panic as they race to answer the biggest question: Who will they choose to die?

Fabulous right to the end

I found the ending a let down after a fabulous and tense build up. I needed an epilogue to tie things up for me

The Ending

I liked the whole concept of switching between the present time and the past. It kept me interested the whole way through.
The narrator was awesome.
The ending was super unexpected. It literally made my mouth open.
This book was great.

Ending disappoints

The book lead to a suspenseful conclusion that the author avoided. It was a letdown.

Fantastic mystery with some language

This is a fantastic, well-written mystery that touches upon the ideas of true friends and the effects of bullying. Please note there is some heavy swearing and the content is dark.

Definitely YA

Yeah, I am an old woman that normally really likes YA books, but this one was a little bit to immature even for me. I could see myself at 12 or 13 really enjoying this book.

High Expectations???

After reading the summary and what other authors had to say, I was looking forward to reading this book, but I guess my expectations were too high. Once it started to get really good, it’s like it just fell apart & then it ended.

Great story elevated by narration

4.5 STARS

Amber and five other scholarship recipients arrive at a celebration dinner? They soon realize they’re locked in the room and find a note. The six must choose one to kill, or they will all die. Over the next sixty minutes secrets will be revealed. Friendships will end and reconnect. Teenagers will find their voices and lose their minds. Not everyone will survive.

Debut writer Diana Urban Hooker me from the first sentence with Amber’s steady narration. Chapters from Amber’s new friendship with bully Sasha leading up to the hourlong countdown alternate to show readers how the past caused the present.

At times I wanted to shake Amber for being so naive and trusting of Sasha. I also wanted to tell her Robbie was a horrible boyfriend bordering on emotionally abusive. I didn’t always understand why she was such a follower.

I didn’t suspect the culprit though the name crossed my mind. I’m glad the person I thought was guilty wasn’t. You’ll have to read ALL YOUR TWISTED SECRETS for yourself to see who I mean.

ETA: the audiobook was excellently narrated.

Meh

Narrator was great, but the storyline was lacking. I felt it was predictable and just not very interesting. It didn’t keep my on the edge of my seat. It moved at a decent pace and the characters were well developed but I walked away unsatisfied and wanting more. Not bad but forgettable.

Unbelievable.

Oh my goodness!!! This book had me fairly gripped all the way through, but the ending. You will not guess it in any way. It is suspenseful and amazing!!! I couldn’t believe my ears! LISTEN TO THIS BOOK. NOW. The narrator is very good, doing every voice and making them all sound different. The characters have good depth and I connect to them all. I will sure be reading more of Diana Urban’s books....

Neither Thrilling Nor Twisted!!!

This was one of my most anticipated reads of the year, and from the premise of this book I should have loved it, but the execution was lacking.

The characters were one dimensional stereotypes and unlikeable. I really didn't care about any of them, their predicament or the outcome, which is sad as I really wanted to love this book. I just think the YA mystery genre really isn't for me.

predictable but worth a listen

narrator was good and clear. story was very predictable but story was well thought out. I thought the ending was a wee bit weak but I think the author wanted to make a point. ***warning alert this has talk of suicides and bullying, it may not be a read for all
