Story
What does a young footballer do to cut loose? At night, some play what they think of as pranks or games: night games with women. Sometimes these involve consensual sex, sometimes not, and often the lines are blurred. In Night Games, Anna Krien follows the rape trial of an Australian Rules footballer. She also takes a balanced and fearless look at the dark side of footy culture - the world of Sam Newman, Ricky Nixon, Matty Johns and the Croa Sharks.

Story
Clem Bastow grew up feeling like she’d missed a key memo on human behaviour. She found the unspoken rules of social engagement confusing, arbitrary and often stressful. Friendships were hard, relationships harder and the office was a fluorescent-lit nightmare of anxiety. It wasn’t until Clem was diagnosed as autistic, at age 36, that things clicked into focus. Clem reflects as an autistic adult on her formative experiences as an undiagnosed young person, from the asphalt playground of St Joseph's Primary School in Melbourne to working as an entertainment journalist in Hollywood.

Story
Dorothy Davis and Kerry Whelan were both happy, healthy, affluent, middle-class women from conservative, loving families. Such women are hardly ever among the ranks of the missing. They were not hitchhikers, or associates of drug dealers, or unhappy with their family relationships, or suffering from mental health issues. Dorothy Davis and Kerry Whelan came from different parts of Sydney, mixed in quite different circles, and led completely different lives.

everything. An author sweats and toils to birth a tome with such colossal cultural impact, it has the power to retune the entire world to a whole new frequency. This is absolutely not one of those books. Not even close. And actually, that all sounds a bit much really, doesn't it? Rhys Nicholson is a multi-award winning comedian, writer and busy mum with an anxiety disorder, a complicated relationship with food and a book deal. In Dish, a debut whack at writing an entire book, Nicholson is reaching out to get some stuff straight in their head.

Best Dish of My Day !
- By Jane Tomlinson on 09-11-2023
Publisher's Summary
A timely and thought-provoking memoir about the trans experience.
Was I always trans, part boy beneath my skin, or was it that I landed in a place where 'girl' was a container so small it could break your bones?
I learn that a ready smile and sympathetic ear are the only props required to impersonate a woman. The performance becomes so familiar that I almost forget that it's staged.
What happens when, aged 30, you realise you're transgender?
This was the question that confronted Yves Rees, a historian whose life was upended by gender transition in 2018. Then known as a woman called Anne, Yves was forced to grapple with the sudden realisation that they were not, in fact, female at all.
But when you've lived a lie for so long, how do you discover who you really are? And how do you re-learn to live in the world as a different gender?
All About Yves tells their moving journey of re-becoming, at the same time laying bare the messiness of bodies, gender and identity. It shares the challenges and joys of being transgender in Australia today, and reveals how trans experiences like Yves' can teach all of us about what it means to be human.
Critic Reviews
"Rees provides us with their deep insights into contemporary trans and gender diverse history as it's being made.... All About Yves is the book I wish I'd been able to give my mother when I was transitioning." (Sam Elkin, Transgender Victoria Board Member)
"A book of great heart and gentle intelligence, and one that will mean a great deal to many people." (Fiona Wright, author of The World Was Whole)
"A balm for anyone who has lived on the margins." (Rick Morton)

Informative
This is a great book, Yves provides excellent political analysis of feminism and trans people along with their own story of being trans. An articulate writer and terrific narrator. A must read for those who want to understand more about what being trans means.
