Publisher's Summary

"Taylor is the name. John Taylor....My card says I'm a detective, but what I really am is an expert on finding things. It's part of the Gift I was born with as a child of the Nightside - the hidden heart of London where it's always three a.m., where inhuman creatures and otherworldly gods walk side-by-side in the endless darkness of the soul.

"Assignment: Locate the Unholy Grail, the cup Judas drank from at the Last Supper. It corrupts all who touch it, but it also grants enormous power. So I've got some competition - from angels, devils, sinners and saints - in the search for the dark goblet."

Good Plot. Great Narrator!!

This is the second book that I have read in the series and I am really enjoying the series. The storyline has enough plot and ghastly happenings, there is action and dry humour and the narrator is really one of the best I have come across. I have already downloaded the next 2 books and am looking forward to spending some quiet time enjoying them!!!

I just can't decide

Parts of these stories are so well told it can bring a tear to your eye and part of it feels repetitive and part of it bugs me to no end. You'll have to find the good bits on your own. I'm not going to spoil it.

The repetitive, is the instance that anything out of this world is possible in the Nightside. That's fine, I got it the first time but it's repeated often and gets tiresome.

As for what bugs me, well there don't seem to be any rules in the Nightside and while that is all well and good it affords the writer to pull stuff directly from his.....collective....mind for convenience. Some times it just feels contrived and some time's it all comes together beautifully. That's irritating. I'm sure I'll listen to the next one if for no other reason than to see if I can decide whether I like this type of storytelling or not.

Then there is the narrator, he's the one thing I'd never change and I'll look for his work and try things just to listen to him. He's wonderful.

Another journey into the night that never ends

As always, Marc Vietor is phenomenal as a narrator. The story is fun, the adventure fast paced and the characters a joy to be around. It’s a shorter romp, but one that’s always worth the time to enjoy. Stay a while. And listen.

I like it

Great series so far. Reminds me of an old radio series or something like that.

Green does not disappoint

I very much enjoyed this performance. Marc Vietor does a wonderful job of bringing the characters and story to life. While you know that Taylor will win in the end (and learn a little bit more about his mother) the way he goes about solving his various cases is what the story is all about.

Search For the Unholy Grail, IN THE NIGHTSIDE

IN THE NIGHTSIDE, if you go to Strange Fellows, you will meet several characters. You will only meet these characters IN THE NIGHTSIDE. You might meet Suzie shooter or Shotgun Suzie or Suzie, Oh Shit it's you IN THE NIGHTSIDE. You could meet Alex, ALEX COULD GLOOM FOR THE OLYMPICS. IN THE NIGHTSIDE, you get great descriptions, especially of women. One woman was EXCEDINGLY BLONDE. Another was SUPERNATURALY SLENDER and there was the woman with IMPOSSIBLY SLENDER LEGS. Only IN THE NIGHTSIDE.

If you have read book one and liked it you should like this one just as well. YOU ALWAYS WHERE A FRUSTRATED DRAMA QUEEN.

It don't matter which order you read these in. YOU PROBABLY WOULDN'T NOW WHAT TO DO WITH A NEWT'S EYE.

Improved

As with the first book, the explanation of various characters and facets of the nightside using secondary characters left a lot to be desired. It was definitely dine better than the first book but still had a number of issues. Best example is when Taylor is heading to a warehouse owned by a weapons dealer and gives the reader the info by telling Suzy Shooter who the guy is....She's Suzy Shooter!! a huge portion of her character is her shooting people. If the guy was a big weapons dealer in the Nightside I guarantee that Suzy would know him. Stuff like that and some Soap Opera worthy reveals and reactions that I felt were out of character pulled down the rating. However, it was still mostly enjoyable and I'll keep on with the series. Solid 3.5 (closing in on 4) stars overall.

Definitely entertaining, Story and Narrator

I find the series two books in, to be solid entertainment. The narrator is very good. I would definitely listen to other books he has done. I find the books to be entertaining. I am surely going to continue with this Nightside series.

Nightside

does he really have to say nightside every 2 minutes? nightside this, nightside that. Got really annoying... the story, though, was good

Great for a quick fix of Angels and Demons...

I've always loved the way Simon R Green can keep a fast pace going in everything I've read from him. This book was a little short but great for fun without too much front lobing. The narrator was perfect you can almost feel the disgust in his voice. If you liked this series then trust me your'll also like the Dresden FIles .
