About this listen

Reviews prior to 1/2/25 relate to a previous recording with the same narrator.

One of fantasy’s finest next-generation storytellers continues to break new ground.

Michael J. Sullivan’s trailblazing career began with the breakout success of his Riyria series: full-bodied, spellbinding fantasy adventures whose imaginative scope and sympathetic characters won a devoted readership and comparisons to fantasy masters Brandon Sanderson, Scott Lynch, and J.R.R. Tolkien himself. Now Age of Myth inaugurates an original six-book series.

Since time immemorial, humans have worshipped the gods they call Fhrey, truly a race apart: invincible in battle, masters of magic, and seemingly immortal. But when a god falls to a human blade, the balance of power between humans and those they thought were gods changes forever.

Now only a few stand between humankind and annihilation: Raithe, reluctant to embrace his destiny as the God Killer; Suri, a young seer burdened by signs of impending doom; and Persephone, who must overcome personal tragedy to lead her people. The Age of Myth is over. The time of rebellion has begun.

Magic, fantasy, and mythology collide in Michael J. Sullivan’s Legends of the First Empire series:

  • Age of Myth
  • Age of Swords
  • Age of War
  • Age of Legend
  • Age of Death
  • Age of Empyre

The story started a bit slow and I was not sure how I felt about a fantasy set in the Bronze Age. However the main characters were very engaging and by the end I couldn’t put the book down. Heroism, magic, and humanity wrapped in a ripper of a story. Can’t wait to listen to the next book in the series.

Page turner!

For writing this book! What's more, thank you for writing so many in this series! I finished my other favourite series, the Cycle of Galand, also narrated by the same awesome narrator; Tim Gerard Reynolds, and the last one was just released. I was so depressed thinking I'd have to wait another 2 years for the next one in the series before I found another good read... and then by luck, I found this!!! I love it! It's brilliant, I love the characters, I love the detail in it, the way you have to pay attention to all the little hints and details in it. I was thoroughly engrossed from start to finish and what's ever better, is there is another 6 books to go baha!

Awesome. Again, THANK YOU!!!

Thank you...

As someone who doesn't normally read prequels, I'm so glad I gave this a go, I completely loved it. Since knowing how a story ends I find I couldn't care less about what happens before hand, but this book is a solid stand alone story set in the familiar, yet made interestingly different, world painted for us in the Ryria Revelations. As in Ryria, here too will you be immersed in a thoroughly exciting and enjoyable story, lovable characters and A++ narration. You will not regret buying this book, but I suggest anyone who hasn't listened to Ryria Revelations, then do so first 'cause the world and it's "vibe" or atmosphere is more set-out for us there. This author and narrator make such an awesome team, great work!!!

Such enjoyable stories!

This book is wonderfully written and the author does an excellent job in world building. The series has graphic audio as well as regular narration (which are both wonderfully done). I especially like the banter between Raithe and Malcolm and also between Suri and Arion. This book is hard to stop listening to and I felt compelled to read it as fast as possible. I have been sucked in by other authors such as Patrick Rothfuss and Aleron Kong who continue to disappoint their fans. This book series is complete and i am excited to listen to the next 5 books. How lovely.

Refreshingly good story in a desert of unfinished book series
