Publisher's Summary

In the delightful Cotswold village of Carsely, the air is heady with romance. Agatha Raisin is convinced that the new vet has taken a shine to her. But before she can get anywhere, handsome Dr Paul Bladen is accidentally killed while attending to Lord Pendlebury's horse. So was it really an accident? All the evidence points that way, but the circumstances are decidedly suspicious.

Quite good. First book is better

Very similar to the first book in terms of story Diana Bishop’s narration is decent, but I personally love Penelope Keith, who narrated the first book. (She narrates all the other audiobooks in the series)

Always Entertaining

These books are usually narrated by Penelope Keith, so it was with a bit of trepidation I bought this one narrated by Diana Bishop, whose work I am unfamiliar with.
However, there is no need for concern. Diana is wonderful. Very similar voice to Penelope's. The beauty of these stories for me lies in the frankness with which the character of Agatha Raisin is laid bare for us.

Pity it isn't Penelope Keith

Having read all the books and listened to the dramatized versions, I began to listen to the audio books. The first book and others are read by Penelope Keith, who reads it beautifully with a range of voices for the characters, this one however isn't and Diana reads it in one voice and marrs my enjoyment somewhat. Why a change of narrator?

Horrible Narration

As ever this is typical Agatha up to her usual escapades resulting in a humorous Miss Marple type adventure. However, for those listeners used to Penelope Keith's voice on this series be warned that this is a different narrator who at times sounds dreary and rarely gives characters a distinctive voice (unlike Ms Keith). This not only takes a lot of the normal fun out of the book but also made it difficult to follow; i.e. who was talking to whom.

Light hearted and very enjoyable

Any additional comments?

Don't get distracted by Penelope Keith. This is a one off by Diana Bishop and she reads it very well.

Missing Penelope Keith

An excellent book, M.C. Beaton, as always, weaves a web of evil around the Cotswold villages

However, being used to PK narrating the Agatha Raisin books, I found this to be missing that special element

Audible Excellent way to relax

Excellent story line , very easy listening. I think these Audible books are fantastic . I find it hard to hold even paper backs for very long as I’m disabled therefore having joined this audible is a great way to still get books and as I listen to them I find myself more involved than just reading. Plus there are so many choices to choose from all different types of stories and authors . Would recommend anybody to join the Audible club it’s great. Many thanks & kind regards MRS C Lord

Easy listening

I gave this 5 stars as it was exactly what I wanted. This is an undemanding and enjoyable book that takes you along a gentle story. Do not expect any more than that.

You’ll love to hate some of the characters in this!

A change of narrator for book 2, but still a great book well read. MC Beaton has a wonderful grasp of characters emotion and motive. A winner from the first death to the last line.
