Publisher's Summary

Never mix business with pleasure. Never bring politics into the bedroom. In a way I did both when I took Jackson Rutledge as a lover. I can't say I wasn't warned.

Two years later, he was back. Walking into a deal I'd worked hard to close. Under the tutelage of Lei Yeung, one of the sharpest businesswomen in New York, I had picked up a thing or two since Jax walked away. I wasn't the girl he once knew, but he hadn't changed. Unlike the last time we'd drifted into each other's lives, I knew exactly what I was dealing with...and how addictive his touch could be.

The inner circle of glamour, sex, and privilege was Jax's playground - but this time, I knew the rules of the game. In the cutthroat business world, one adage rules all: keep your enemies close and your ex-lovers closer...

That voice killed me!

I have to say that the lady that was reading was the worst and took away the shine of the book. Maybe if read by someone else it might have been better.

Voices

The voice on this story is not the best. I would suggest that men do men voices and woman do woman voices. It doesn’t sound erotic! When I read these books myself it’s more erotic

Jax & Gia change the world!

So this is 2 shorts in 1 which I appreciate!! Thank you for putting them together! I will almost never get a book under 7 hours unless it is really cheap and a part of a series. That said, you really can't complain about Sylvia Day! There is a difference in quality, style and ability when we are reading from her.

This story is short so there isn't a ton of depth, I would have read more from this couple but that said, I liked them. I thought Gia was a bit too obstinate, if you love him you love him, try it or don't but come one. The "climax" scene was a bit obvious not maybe the exact outcome but there was enough foreshadowing.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE a man who loves a woman and who pursues her.

I love a guy who knows what he wants and goes after it. It is easy to be mad a Jax in the beginning but once we know the whole story we love him and forgive him, at least I did, it took Gia longer.

There is some great hotness here, narrator was good as always. I love the characters, all the extended family and all that and I absolutely LOVE the ending! Thank you Sylvia Day for another good one.

Nice fun political meets foody romp!

Good story..Two books in one! Slyvia Day often write the smexest male leads with baggage and a whole heaping smack of drama but if it works, it just works!

Credit well spent, loved the N.Y./Jersey accents!

Narration was pretty darn good too..a nice credit or sale

After Shock/After Burn

I loved this book. I had just finished the Crossfire series and needed a Sylvia Day fix. This is a short but good book. It's only about 7 hours long so I was able to finish it rather quickly. It didn't have as much detail as other books I have read but I loved the characters and the story. I wish there would of been more of a history given on there back story or flashbacks of what they went through. Overall I loved the book and would read it again.

Good Listening Book At @ $7.34 Bargain Price

Sylvia returns with the sequel and conclusion to Jax and Gia’s story and it was wonderful. It is a sexy, sassy tale about finding strength in who you are through the people you love. This book was exactly what I wanted and needed in the moment. I was primed and ready for more Jackson Rutledge. It is a must that you listen to AFTERBURN first though, if you haven’t already, as this provides the ending for Jax & Gia.

The one issue that always confused me about Jax & Gia’s relationship was why Jax left Gia the first time. It never made sense to me considering how much Jax wants Gia when they see one another again after all that time. Rest assured, you will get your answer and it’s shockingly simpler than I expected. In fact, I feel like this entire story was really a simple love story – and I mean that in the BEST possible way.

As a quick side note, I need to throw in that it was no surprise that the sex scenes were hot – sexual tension, impatient, needy, all-encompassing. Jax is one sexy beast of a man and I have to admit my heart (and panties) melted every time he said “Gia. Baby.”

If you’ve read Sylvia’s other books, you know that the story line has many layers and things are not always what they seem. As such, sometimes it takes a while to really get the answers you want as the reader. This book is different – it is fun and flirty and shockingly light-hearted. At the core of the story are two people who got a second chance at love and who are finally ready to fight for one another. There aren’t deep dark secrets or crazy exes or any other OMG plot twists. In my opinion, it was a nice change of pace. Sometimes it’s good to read a good ole love story about a strong woman and her sexy, yet equally as strong, man.

If you want sexy and fun, then these two books are must reads! I found myself completely engrossed with Gia and Jax and I was so sad when it ended. I do wish we got a bit more from the Epilogue, but ultimately I was satisfied with this story and glad that all my lingering questions were answered. Now I just have to go back to waiting for more Sylvia Day…

Amy McFadden was good with the delivery of the story

It was ok

I thought the story line was interesting however I wasn't a fan of the main female character or the narrator. She was a bit whiny for my liking.

Apprehensive b/c of Reviews 😊 surprised!

I enjoyed the Crossfire Series so much and enjoy Sylvia Day's talents. Her other books are period piece's and dark vampire-ish stuff that I don't care to read about. So when I discovered this book was being made into a movie for passionflix -I reviewed the synopsis and watched the trailer and new I had to read it before I watch the movie. I loved the story and now can't wait till November for the movie.
Now about this book, the story opens similarly to the vibe of Crossfire which gave me hope it was going to be a page turner.
************************************Some spoiler details below

Gia walks into a tall building in NYC for an interview with Lee Yeung. She appears to have failed the interview and leaves to return to her family restaurant for support from her peeps. In walks Lee Yeung and offers her the job. She and Lee form a distant friendship respecting the boundaries of boss/employee. An event takes place and Jax Rutledge is there a man from Gia's past and a gentlemen from Lee's past too. (The name escapes me) Gia and Lee find the men are competing for the same restaurant/tv option that they are trying to sign. Gia and Jax share a dance and they discuss their past history. I wish I could have been privy to that knowledge at this point in the book. Gia said you left me, he says you left me and she said you didn't fight for me. He said I could give you what you wanted and you deserve to have that. The re-connection begins with mysterious tones of Jax's family life that he is keeping from Gia. Gia gets frustrated because he won't talk about it and goes on a fact finding mission to Deanna Johnson a reporter in NYC (some may recall she tried to take down Gideon Cross in his story) I though that was cool the Sylvia tied the 2 novels in together. Deanna discovers Jax past and threatens to run the story. Gia returns home to discover she is the reason Jax is so stressed about a threat to their family and the plans they have for a Political Career for the Rutledge Family. Gia fesses up to Jax he gets really mad and tells her to get out. Hi threatens Deanna and Jax witnesses this act of love and the two reunite. This is my interpretation of the story. It was worth the read and the credit. It didn't leave me feeling cheated, or that the story was rushed like the other reviewers believe. The story had some cute funny stuff with interactions between Gia and her brothers and sister in law. So that gave some good fun into the mix and who Gia is and how far family will go for each other. I left out some details in this story for you to discover on your own.

Why so short?!

This story was great! I wish Sylvia had dedicated sufficient time to building each part further. I could love Gia and Jax, as I love Eva and Gideon!!! I loved the Brooklyn accent, being a New Yorker it's nice to see hear the unique accent so vividly.

Please skip this hot mess of a novel

I can’t begin to tell you how much I HATED this book... wait... I am not sure which one is worst.... Afterburn or Aftershock

First of all, the narrator was sooooo dramatic that I thought I was in a high school locker room.

Character with NO-ZERO-NADA Chemistry. Watching a plant grow was more excited than this so call novel.

I decided to punish myself and finish it..... so I have suffer myself enough for the greater good. You are welcome

Please skip this crazy shit show....

Second Chances

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Hmm. Hard to answer. I liked the story but I could not take the narration. The NY accent was too heavy and did not make for easy listening. It was an aggravation. I ended foregoing the audio version and purchasing the eBook.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

It was a good ending. I like the way it was wrapped up. Ms Day usually gets on my nerves when she leaves me hanging on her Renegade Angels books, so I am glad she did not tick me off by doing the same here.

Would you be willing to try another one of Amy McFadden’s performances?

Heck No! She sounds like a freaking Brooklyn Cheerleader while reading.

Do you think Afterburn & Aftershock needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Nope. I think it ended fine.

A book too long

Would you try another book written by Sylvia Day or narrated by Amy McFadden?

Rather over-rated in my view. There was really not a great deal to the story itself - strong willed beauty in restaurant trade with 'passions' involved in drawn out business negotiations involving her 'ex'. Listened to the first 60% or so then realised that actually I had a life so moved onto more entertaining listening. You know you are not enthralled when 5 minutes passes by and you are non the wiser.

Disappointing 😞

I loved the Crossfire Series but this duet was sadly lacking. Gianna was a sassy heroine and Jax was delicious.

Sylvia has a way of writing delicious men but apart from this, there could have been so much more to this story than he was gorgeous and they couldn't resist each other.

I would have liked more of the Vegas back story and the political intrigue, so unfortunately i found it rather bland and disappointing.

It’s was okay

After reading the Crossfire series I had really high hopes for this one. The performance was great but story was so one dimensional. The sub plots were so bizarre and lacked consistency towards the end. The story was building at some parts but never really hit the high note. It was okay but overall I’m pretty disappointed.
