Publisher's Summary

When Lauren and Ryan's marriage reaches the breaking point, they come up with an unconventional plan. They decide to take a year off in the hopes of finding a way to fall in love again. One year apart and only one rule: They cannot contact each other. Aside from that, anything goes.

Lauren embarks on a journey of self-discovery, quickly finding that her friends and family have their own ideas about the meaning of marriage. These influences, as well as her own healing process and the challenges of living apart from Ryan, begin to change Lauren's ideas about monogamy and marriage. She starts to question: When you can have romance without loyalty and commitment without marriage, when love and lust are no longer tied together, what do you value? What are you willing to fight for?

A Fiction Self-Help Book, really

This is the perfect book for anyone going through a hard time in their relationships right now. It was just what I needed at the right time.

And as usual, Taylor makes it so easy to convince her readers that there will always be hope for human connections. No regrets.

Thank you to my wonderful sister Chooi Wen Khoo for introducing her work to me.

Ms Reid I am floored.

A simple story told simply. .. no frills or extra fluff and yet so soulful. You know what the end is going to be and yet it keeps you glued till the very last syllable. Three cheers Ms Reid.

Interesting...

Interesting novel. Enjoyed listening, but it wasn't one that I thought about a lot afterwards or made me seek out the author for more.

Really overrated

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Absolutely not. I enjoy chick lit, but this was like a eating a sugar-free piece of hard candy when you were promised Godiva. There's just nothing to it, and it leaves a bad taste in your mouth. I didn't like Lauren -- I mean, the character was so... blah she almost doesn't merit dislike, but whatever. Ryan: flat. Charlie: flat. Rachel: halfway inflated. I didn't like the family - it felt fake. The grandmother was an attempt at quirky characterization but it felt forced. Ugh, I just can't really articulate what a big pile of nothing good this book is.

If you enjoy witty chick lit with well-developed characters, do not waste your money here.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The narrator sounded like a chipmunk.

Could you see After I Do being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

No. There's not enough depth there to sustain a series.

Reminds me of a Hallmark movie

The idea behind the story line is good, however I can’t get over the cheesy dialogue that is not real. The narrator has a bit of whiny voice and did not fit the character. Not a bad beach read

I wanted to like it

But it is simply too.....simple, or facile. I never felt a connection to the protagonist. I wanted to like it, but I gave up after less than an hour. Others may love it...just not for me.

Very real depiction of some marriages

I know that some of the reviews that they were annoyed because they song just communicate. I'm one of those individuals who recognized it is easier said than done. this book parallels my own marriage in so many ways. I loved the author's writing and perspective. It was a phenomenal book and a phenomenal story. I would even love to see it visually in film. While it's not everyone's marriage story it is a very real marriage story. I think people don't understand how many marriages out there don't have a big problem but have a marriage filled with little problems that suddenly feels insurmountable.
