Very helpful
This is an incredibly helpful book for anyone trying to heal from childhood trauma. It was painful and confronting at times but also a relief to identify patterns of behaviour in my parents and hear how this has affected me. The author gives you strategies to deal with your parents and how to identify healthy emotional people to build better intimate relationships. The narrator is terrific.

Sensitively explored, extremely insightful. Recommend!
I really rated the experience of listening to this audiobook.
Listening to this book, rather than reading it, had a wonderfully profound and therapeutic effect on me. The book is read by a female narrator who is older than me (I’m 31) and this was an excellent way to absorb the information and at the same time feel the sensation of my own experiences being validated by an older peer. (This is so lacking in modern day community/society, and I feel is a key part of accepting the past and integrating the self.)
The author feels like an extremely sensitive and intelligent being. The information and understanding was rich, and the supporting case studies were wide ranging, with relevant and insightful commentary.
I felt for the first time, able to really accept and understand some integral parts of my past experience. Furthermore I was able to identify some gold that would help some of my close friends in understanding the difficult relationships they have had with their parents. I have had some great conversations since, with many pieces coming together for myself and dear friends!
All in all, great research sensitively explored, and in this audio format you may have an elevated experience and guide in processing your own past traumas. The relationships we have with our parents can be the most confusing, draining, and difficult to look at connections we have in our lives, and they are often the most enduring. This book presents insights that shed light and give perspective so that we may be able to navigate them with a matured and individual will.

Not a book that places blame
This was a recommended book for a book club Im in and I was hesitant to read it because I had a loving childhood, but still struggle with anxiety, loss of direction and emotional overwhelm. I found this book to be an incredible support for self compassion and better understanding of the relationships in my life. I ended this book with a feeling of lightness for a topic that felt so heavy before.

Eye opening
I feel like finally I have the answers I've been seaching for after reading this book. I understand now why some people don't think like I do and I can let go of the 'why' I can now work on dealing with these people but most importantly, I can work on my own happiness and real self with the tools given in this book. Thank you so much!

This book changed my life.
Sounds so corny but this book literally changed my life. I have listened to it once a year over the past few years to make sure I am still on the right path.

eye opening
As an adult of 2 emotionally immature parents I am riddled with guilt about just about everything, I am my own worst enemy. This book has pretty much given me permission to believe in myself and the steps to disconnect from the way I have been conditioned to veiw myself and my worth. I'm excited to find out who I really am now.

Enlightening
I appreciated the in depth explanation into this topic and the examples from clients to further explain. overall, it not only reinforced my knowledge on emotional intelligence/emotional immaturity, it gave me a greater understanding of it. Despite being aware, my struggles with having an intimate and authentic relationship with my mother has always been an issue for me. This book explains in depth the intricacies of such relationships which has helped; and to accept that we can't always have the relationship we want with our parents but that it's ok.
