Publisher's Summary

Random House presents the audiobook edition of Adjustment Day by Chuck Palahniuk.

People pass the word only to those they trust most: Adjustment Day is coming. They’ve been reading a mysterious blue-black book and memorising its directives. They are ready for the reckoning.

In this ingeniously comic work, Chuck Palahniuk’s first novel in four years, he does what he does best: skewer the absurdities in our society. Smug, geriatric politicians hatch a nasty fate for the burgeoning population of young males, working-class men dream of burying the elites and professors propound theories that offer students only the bleakest future. When it arrives, Adjustment Day inaugurates a new Disunited States of America.

In this mind-blowing novel, Palahniuk fearlessly makes real the logical conclusion of every separatist fantasy, alternative fact and conspiracy theory lurking in the American psyche.

Great story, doesn't convert well to audio

The writing style can make it difficult to follow as the story jumps from one character's POV to another.

Hooks you early but never really reels you in.

I was attracted to this book by the cover. Then I looked it up online and was enchanted by its synopsis. it was the kind of book I couldn't wait to dig into.

I bought a Hard copy and half listened half read, I just kept waiting to get invested in it and it just never happened.

Part of the problem for me was the lack of a main character, the story is told from multiple points of view across multiple timelines that all meet up. But without a main character with a motivation I just never really got invested in the book in a 'can't put it down way'.

This is still a very interesting book, just don't expect it to get you hooked!
