Publisher's Summary

Jock was supposed to have died in the Paddington train crash. Minty had received a letter from the railway company. But, curiously, the police hadn't been in touch. And Jock had gone off with all her savings.

Then Jock's ghost starts reappearing to Minty: at home, at work, even in the cinema. He even touches her. Minty started to carry a knife. If he wasn't made of shadows, would he bleed?

Didn't realise this was abridged

I missed that this was an abridged version of Ruth Rendell's psychological suspense novel, which is one of my all-time favourite books. I was very disappointed that the story came across as disjointed, with several important twists missing, and the character development was completely ruined. It would be very difficult to successfully abridge a psychological suspense story, because little things like a child constantly crying or someone's eating habits or a chance encounter, might seem unimportant enough to remove, but they are essential for building character and suspense. This is so disappointing because I thought this would be the perfect audiobook, but the story simply isn't there any more.
I recommend anyone interested in the story to read the full version which is brilliant.
