The sixth book in the Rose Gardner Investigations series. For months, Rose has suspected her ex-brother-in-law, has a foot in the criminal world, and she’s equally sure her deceased sister had the evidence to prove it - evidence stolen days just days after Violet’s death. Those suspicions turn concrete when a body shows up near one of Mike's construction sites, and the concrete cracks open wide when her niece and nephew go missing. Rose might be weeks away from delivering her own baby, but that doesn’t stop her and her best friend, Neely Kate, from looking for the kids.

Publisher's Summary
For as long as Magnolia Steele can remember, the past has had its hooks in her. Her time as a Broadway actress in New York City was an escape that ended in public humiliation, but now that she's back home in Franklin, Tennessee, she's feeling the grip of the two incidents that stole her innocence. The first was the disappearance of her father when she was a teen, who left home for a meeting and never came back. The other incident...well, her memories have returned, but it's best left where it belongs - in the past.
Hoping for closure, Magnolia decides to look into her daddy's cold case. Though the town gossips are convinced he ran away with his client's wife and money, she has always suspected foul play. Talking to a few of his old acquaintances seems harmless enough - until the man she's arranged to meet turns up dead. There's evidence someone murdered him to keep him quiet, and she realizes that whatever conspiracy her father was mixed up in is far from over; it's entering its second act.

another excellent book
I absolutely love the banter between Magnolia and Colt. I laugh out loud so much as I listened to this book as an audiobook. In this book Magnolia is discoving what happened to her dad, and realising what a bad person her brother Roy is. I love all the mystery, it is so exciting. Magnolia starts finding out what happened to her dad and why. Ms Ava seems an interesting character, I'm eager to learn more her. And Magnolia's poor mother, I love how she is starting to open up until she thinks magnolia is meddling in things she shouldn't be. And lastly the mystery text person, it is so hard to work out should is, can't wait to find out more in the next book.

Where is the ending?
What did you love best about Act Two?
Fun, easy to listen to and engaging.
What did you like best about this story?
I enjoyed and was engaged by the characters.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Yes, I want to know the rest of the story.
Any additional comments?
This book does not have an adequate ending. It's clear that to know the rest of the story you need to listen to the next book which isn't written yet. I listen to a lot of series books but most have an adequate ending and move to another story with the same characters.

LOVED IT
love the storyline and the complexity of the different story lines. I enjoy the almost love affair and the guessing of who the bad guy from her past is. I am almost sure I know who it is, but I'll keep reading for that gotcha moment. can't wait

The strong arms of the law !!
Another good storyline in this series. Even though there's acliff hanger finish it was a complete story in itself and the ending is more a continuity than cliff hanger whither angst. Well written with a good pace throughout I really enjoyed the story and look forward to book three. Highly recommended but read in sequence .
