About this listen

Behind every criminal man is a young, glamorous woman profiting from his crimes. Or, at least, so the media suggests.

Felicia Djamirze is a counsellor, an advocate for women's justice, a three-time Miss Australia winner and a convicted drug dealer. Growing up surrounded by drug abuse and crime in a rough Sydney neighbourhood, she had little hope of escaping the cycle of violence and poverty. So when her looks seemed to offer her a way out, she took it—even if it involved attracting men on the wrong side of the law.

Entering this shadowy world, she became both a perpetrator and a victim, an accessory and a rebel. But eventually, the law would catch up with her in spectacular and violent fashion—and it would make her rethink everything.

Written in beautiful prose with seasoned journalist Erin O'Dwyer, Accessory is a bold and searingly honest tale of an extraordinary life.

Not gonna lie, came hear from hearing about Felicia on It’s A Lot podcast and was keen to hear more about her experiences with the underworld. After finishing this book, I have been left with the wisdom of valuing your freedom and self worth, appreciating family and friends and having a support network. The thing that had really struck me is having an inside look on how our corrections system. Society has so much room for improvement and knowing that we could be giving people a proper education and assistance whilst being inside, that can have a huge impact on our society for the good, once their outside. Thanks for telling your story Felicia, you’ve already made a difference in my life.

Came for the crime, left with life wisdom

Well written and read and a good listen. Couldn’t help thinking throughout though, that the author condoned and contributed to a lifestyle that breaks down families and leads to the creation of the “lost boys “ she refers to.

Disappointing that this is a true story.

Superb performance by the writer herself adds a powerful, genuinely personal layer to the storytelling. There were moments that had me laughing, tearing up, and covered in goosebumps. Accessory is a true Aussie memoir that doesn’t shy away from the raw and real — a compelling journey through the highs and lows of life, underpinned by the richness of a multicultural heritage. Felicia Djamirze’s voice is honest, unflinching, and unforgettable.

Felicia shares her families rich history and their journey to becoming migrants in Australia with such raw emotion. Felicia speaks about the ups and downs of her upbringing and how this has shaped some of the heavy experiences that she has endured. Throughout this story I found Felicia to be brave, loyal, intelligent and genuine.

Genuine and thought provoking.

Accessory by Felicia Djamrize is not just a story about drugs and beauty queens, it’s a deeply personal, intergenerational tale of struggle, survival, and resilience, woven through a family history that reaches all the way back to WWII.
What makes this book truly stand out is its unflinching honesty. It’s raw, witty, darkly funny, and at times gut-wrenching. One moment you’re laughing at sharp Aussie humour, and the next you’re reflecting on the weight of inherited trauma and the brutal realities faced by so many growing up in places like Blacktown.
It’s historical, tragic, thrilling, and surprisingly tender. The way it explores identity, forgiveness, and the humanity within chaos is both moving and unforgettable.
Felicia captures a world most people overlook, where people spoke multiple languages, survived atrocities, hustled for their lives, and engaged in all aspects of society, including crime. It’s a rare and powerful insight into a generation that redefined resilience.
Every Aussie kid who grew up in the '80s or '90s should read this. It challenges your perception of the West, makes you reflect on your own privilege, and leaves you with a greater sense of compassion for the complexity of others’ journeys.
Absolutely brilliant.

A wild, heartbreaking, and eye-opening ride, more than just a beauty queen drug tale
