Der Raumfrachter MARION umkreist den Planeten LV178, aus dessen Minen das wertvolle Element Trimonit gewonnen werden soll. Seit zwei Tagen besteht jedoch keinerlei Funkkontakt zu den Minenarbeitern, und die Crew auf dem Mutterschiff macht sich langsam Sorgen - allen voran Captain Jordan und ihr Chefmechaniker Chris Hooper.
Als die Verbindung zu den Kollegen plötzlich wieder steht, ist die Erleichterung zunächst groß. Doch die Freude währt nur kurz, denn die Stimmen der Piloten sind von panischer Angst erfüllt. Irgendetwas hat in den Minen auf sie gelauert und es mit an Bord geschafft. Und so droht der Anflug auf die MARION zu einem tödlichen Desaster zu werden...
