About this listen

‘Reminds me of why I became a fantasy enthusiast in the first place’ – Robin Hobb, author of Assassin’s Apprentice

The first novel in John Gwynne’s epic and stirring Of Blood and Bone trilogy.

The Ben-Elim, a race of warrior angels, once vanquished a mighty demon horde. Now they rule the Banished Lands. But their dominion is brutally enforced and their ancient enemy may not be as crushed as they thought.

In the snowbound North, Drem, a trapper, finds mutilated corpses in the forests – a sign of demonic black magic. In the South, Riv, a young, tempestuous soldier, discovers a deadly rift within the Ben-Elim themselves.

Two individuals with two world-changing secrets. But where will they lead? And what role will Drem and Riv play in the Banished Lands’ fate? Difficult choices need to be made. Because in the shadows, demons are gathering, waiting for their time to rise . . .

Continue the heroic fantasy series with A Time of Blood.

This is a great beginning of an epic. Characters you believe in and feel their ups and downs and hope the best for struggles. But also provides a sense of right and wrong and the ever battle of good and evil and justice for all

Another awesome book from John Gwynne.
So good to be back in the Banished Lands, learning the history and what's gone on since Corban and crew's stories.
This new story was fast paced and really interesting too grabbing my attention from the get go.
Drem is a great character, I loved how thoughtful and methodical he is, as well as brave and kind, I also liked all the other characters too.
Very intriguing storyline with the Ben Elim and also the storyline with the Kadoshim, acolytes and ferals was great and felt very sinister.
This one felt darker and grittier and its just so well written, the scene with Drem at his homestead is the best.
I loved it, on to the 2nd book.

Bloody excellent story.

The story was a little confused and complicated. Too many concurrent stories lines. There were a few good, even great, threads but they got lost in the confusion. I didn’t enjoy the writing style. Felt formulaic or written by an AI.

Not sure about the style
