About this listen

It's 1832. Convict girls Friday Woolfe, Sarah Morgan and Harriet Clarke have been serving their sentences in Sydney Town.

Each of them has begun to make a life for herself, but when Harrie's adopted child, Charlotte, is abducted, the girls must risk their very freedom to save her. But will Friday's desperate battle with her own vices drive her to fail not only herself but those she loves and all who love her?

Amazing series which I have binged as I couldn’t put it away. I loved hearing the convicts journey and the interactions with nz Māori. I didn’t like how the Māori people were portrayed and the nz accent was terrible in the narration. The accents didn’t do the story justice.

Easy listening series, APART from the terrible NZ accent and mangled Maori words by narrator

Good writing, engaging characters

Really nice listen. The books in the series flowed so well it could have been one big book. Nothing earth shattering but I was hooked on getting to know what happened with each of the characters. Thoroughly enjoyed the series.

It only took a week to listen to all four books. So engrossing. I believe it would be interesting if the author chose to follow it through to another generation. Seamless history with flesh and blood characters. Deborah Challinor is my new favourite historical romance author.
I believe this would translate well to television.

What a satisfying end to a great series

I loved the entire series. Once I'd listened to the first book, I had to get the rest and I listened to them all one after the other! Well written and utterly engaging - the plot twists were unexpected but perfect. I was taken (I was going to say transported) to the Sydney Town and penal colony of NSW of the 1800s with so much skill that I kept forgetting that I was reading a work of fiction. The narrater was brilliant and perfectly portrayed all of the characters with conviction and humour.
