There are tales of Middle-earth from times long before The Lord of the Rings. The story told in this book is set in the great country that lay beyond the Grey Havens in the West: lands where Treebeard once walked, but which were drowned in the great cataclysm that ended the First Age of the World.

Publisher's Summary
The complete, unabridged audiobook of A Storm of Swords.
HBO’s hit series A Game of Thrones is based on George R. R. Martin’s internationally best-selling series A Song of Ice and Fire, the greatest fantasy epic of the modern age. A Storm of Swords is the third volume in the series.
The Seven Kingdoms are divided by revolt and blood feud, and winter approaches like an angry beast. Beyond the Northern borders, wildlings leave their villages to gather in the ice and stone wasteland of the Frostfangs. From there, the renegade Brother Mance Rayder will lead them South towards the Wall.
The men of the Night’s Watch are ready for the coming of a great cold and the walking corpses that travel with it. But now they face a horde of wildlings 20000 strong - hungry savage people steeped in the dark magic of the haunted wilderness – poised to invade the Kingdom of the North where Robb Stark wears his new-forged crown.
But Robb’s defences are ranged against attack from the South, the land of House Stark’s enemies the Lannisters. His sisters are trapped there, dead or likely yet to die, at the whim of the Lannister boy-king Joffrey or his depraved mother Cersei, regent of the Iron Throne. Cersei’s ambition is unfettered while the dwarf Tyrion Lannister fights for his life, a victim of treachery.
And on the other side of the ocean, the last of the Targaryens rears the dragons she hatched from her husband’s funeral pyre. Daenerys Stormborn will return to the land of her birth to avenge the murder of her father, the last Dragon King on the Iron Throne.

Excellent story, ok narration
Almost goes without saying that this series is fantastic. The narration is ok - he tells the story well but his choice of accents is a bit strange sometimes (eg a working class uk accent for a high-born southern character) and he sometimes uses the exact same voice/accent for multiple characters, which spoils the illusion a bit. He is generally a very good narrator but may have bitten off more than he can chew with this series. (If Rupert Degas narrated this series i’d pay double for it and listen again from start to finish!)

My favourite book so far.
Perhaps it is simply thst I have finally sorted out who is who in the zoo…but I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Not for everyone…some of the graphic descriptions of battle injuries or punishment were a bit horrific. Narration wonderful. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

The best book in the series
Such brilliant storytelling, with storm of swords being the best book in the series, and that’s saying something. So much going on, so many ‘holy s**t’ moments. If you’ve travelled this far listening to Roy Dotrice, he does grow on you.

Narration is terrible, story is great
The story is great but as per the rest of the series the narration is so, so, so terrible. Mixing up accents, mis pronouncing names from one chapter to the next. These books really need re-narrating by someone who is actually capable.

Absolutely Amazing
The story is a well constructed narrative with it being to listen to different chapters without feeling like you missed much of the characters story. The thing that bugs me is that the last Samwell chapter of this book is missing.
