About this listen

Since the day Lord Dillon earned his spurs, rumors of his savagery on the battlefield have preceded him into every room, stilling tongues and sparking fear. Weary of battle, he wishes only to find a woman he can wed who will approach him not with fear but with the tenderness that has been absent from his life for so long. Yet only the wisewoman seems invariably at ease in his presence.

For seven years Alyssa has been by Lord Dillon's side - counseling him from the shadows, healing him, and staving off the worst of his loneliness. Blessed - or cursed - with gifts that label her a sorceress, she is forced to conceal her youth and the love she harbors for him, leading Dillon and his people to believe she is the same wisewoman who served his father.

All is revealed, however, and passions flare when an enemy threatens Dillon's life and Alyssa sacrifices everything to save him. When Dillon discovers that the wisewoman is far from elderly, he is instantly entranced. And, as he and Alyssa work together to defeat an enemy bent on destroying them both, Dillon will risk anything - even the wrath of his king - to be with her.

"As in the best audiobooks, it's the joining of Duvall's carefully constructed romance and Potter's consummate voices that yields this excellent production." ( AudioFile Magazine)

I really enjoy Dianne Duvell’s stories. And whilst the narrator for this book is very skilled the story was set in England. Therefore the American accented narration coupled with poorly executed English accents created a disconnect and was rather disappointing.

Great Story

Book that inspired her immortals after dark series… written first but released later, same narrator handles all her books, same awesome performance.

Book that started it all

The story was reasonable, but I disliked the narrator’s performance. She sounded like she was doing bad radio from the 1950’s - and I am not talking about the accent, but rather that every emotion was wrung out her to the point of pain (mine). Romance scenes were particularly horrible

Overly dramatic

this is the book that starts it all.. I found it a bit slow.. and perhaps the narration not right.. typical American trying to do English accent not great.. honestly I have heard worse.

not bad but not her best

It was refreshing to hear something from a genre that I have not listened to in the past. I really enjoyed it.

This is the first book I’ve listened to from this author but it won’t be the last!

A tale set in King Richard time between the Earl and his advisor, who everyone thinks is an old woman. A love that crosses boundaries . A well written romance set among sieges, battles and treachery.

She has always loved Him from behind her Robes
