Charles Hayden sets off aboard the ill-fated HMS Themis with orders to destroy a French frigate and to gather intelligence from a royalist spy. On discovering French plans for an imminent invasion of England, Hayden must return to Portsmouth to give warning before it's too late. It's just dismal

Look, I've really tried to give this series a chance, but the author just piles crap on his lead character relentlessly. No one in history has had such constant ill fortune as Charles Hayden and, honestly, it gets old quickly. Reading about a person who can never just catch a break is boring. Yes, the life aboard ship did is good. But the story is just depressing.
